ive been wondering about this for a while ive seen kamen rider and other sentai series on ebay some clamming region free with english sub titles and im sure their not the offical and probably something produced in a country with questionable copyright laws but i want to know if anyone knows if their the broadcast versions-loaded with adds or the clean versions

Region free would mean HK DVD... yes, they're bootlegs. I think the episodes are the broadcast version since there's a time/clock in the top-left corner for Sentai but there are no advertisements.

I'm speaking from my HK DVDs I used to own though (ended up selling them all away)... I had some Dekaranger and Magirangers ones. Can't say for sure about the recent ones though (basically anything Boukenger and beyond) since I stopped buying at that point.

It's probably just the TV-N subbed episodes on a dvd, so there shouldn't be ads or anything of the sort. It's far from official though.

No, the HK DVDs are not just the TVN encodes on a DVD. If you want those, you can buy those from Ace Spade (or whatever they're called) on eBay. Nonetheless, I'm sure there's no ads on HK DVDs either.

English subs on HK DVDs usually suck (so you're far better off with TVN's stuff). Reason being they're often translated from the Chinese subs -- so some of the meaning is kind of lost in translation. Names are usually all wrong, there's errors in grammar and spelling, and not to mention some pretty damn hilarious things like "Scorpion Penis Attack" from the Dekaranger Movie, if I recall correctly.

Official DVDs wouldn't have any subs at all. If there's subs, it's definitely not official.

The Kamen Rider DVDs, Masked Rider: the First, and Kamen Rider V3 both have English subs, and they are official. Definitely are official actually as long as you don't have the HK versions of them. I'm saying just because KR DVD has subs, it doesn't immediately make it unofficial.

Well, probably because those got licensed for North America. I was talking about the official DVDs from Toei.
