Kamen Rider Black

Do you happen to know what went on behind the scenes?

After the first four episodes, Shozo Uehara, the head writer for the series, leaves. The series doesn't get a new chief writer afterward, but Noboru Sugimura (Zyuranger~Ohranger) and Junichi Miyashita (Hurricanger) seem to handle most of the rest of the series, including the major episodes. I want to say this probably threw a wrench into plans.

I always tend to view Black as sort of a crossroads series for the franchise. It seems to be pretty much a perfect intersection between the old school episodic format and the more serialized plots of the Heisei era. The result is a kind of story whiplash where it will go back and forth between the two styles pretty abruptly.

so was Uehara supposed to be the main writer all the way through ? then why he left so soon ?

Wow, after only 4 episodes. The show could have been way worse then, good rebound on Toei's part.

I was going to ask, is RX a better cleaned up version in certain ways? Or is the good and the bad equal to Black, just in it's own way?

btw when I first saw Ryuuske, despite him coming off as a jerk and standoff-ish I thought he would have made a great second Rider. Idk why, but that popped in my head when first seeing him, then as the episode showed his good side and now seeing his second appearance in episode 30 it only proves how worthy he is to dawn a belt.

RX....first, picture the weirdest Black filler episode. Then, try to picture if 95% of Black were like that. Also, if Kohtaro were goofier. There you have RX.
Of course, you could say it has a more consistent tone than Black...

Yikes..I've seen an episode or two of RX a couple years back. I don't remember anything except the a shot of the sun.

I think a good way to think of it is, to borrow SAT format, Black RX is to Black as Zyuranger is to Jetman.
