He looks cool. Creating "new old Riders" is kind of a gamble, but it paid off here and if they try it again in Kabuto's world or Hibiki's, it could be pretty interesting. Abyss mostly fits in with the Ryuki crowd. He has that "I was made later" look to him, but he somehow still feels right. It's also an imaginative design, and I love the most oddball Ryuki ones like Verde & Scissors. I like how they integrated the shark monsters from the original show, keeping with the other Riders in how all his weaponry comes from them.
I like that he's played by an older actor. At the risk of repeating myself, one of Ryuki's original concepts was that virtually anybody in it could be a Rider, since they're now no longer just good-hearted 20-something nice guys, but anybody Kanzaki wanted. Okay, he ends up picking a lot of 20-something guys and past Tokusatsu actors, but at least the idea was there. Verde came pretty close. Alternative Zero too (and yes I know messy subject there, don't want to get into it now thanks.)
I like that Kamada (or Kamata, depending on what book you're reading) is from that unassuming school of evil. You look at Asakura, you know he's trouble. We theoretically fear him because we're told to. This guy looks like alarmingly like my new boss, not someone you don't want to meet in a dark alley. But I actually like that. Like Apollo Geist, he's badass in a different way.
And his secret identity- as I've said before, I kind of wish I hadn't known in advance, because it's one of the best moments in the show so far for me.
So basically a cool character that looks neat with an awesome twist. That's all you need sometimes. I think Gamio has had the best plan of attack so far, but I like Abyss.
