Seriously. Awesome. ****.

I'm 7 eps in and the series is downright awesome. Akakage reminds me of Kamen Rider Stronger/Jou Shigeru in terms of his attitude. He often gloats in front of the villains and laughs at them often too. I love the swordsplay in each episode and the idea of the ninja fighting kaiju with their wits and secret technology is damn awesome.

It's based on a manga by Mitsuteru Yokoyama, creator of GIANT ROBO, BABEL II, and TETSUJIN 28.

It's from the 60s and was Toei's first true "superhero" show. Past heroes had costumes and such but they didn't really have powers.

The three ninja are Akakage, a master swordsman and also a master of disguise, Aokage, a child(who was played by the kid from GIANT ROBO/Johnny Sokko's younger brother)ninja who loves using explosives, and Shirokage, an older man who often is captured by enemies, he flies using a kite and announces his appearance on the kite with an alarm.

It was also the first show to have multiple villain organizations, one every 13 eps.
