My beloved Sony multi layer dvd burner died today, 11:37 pm est. She was 2.5 years old. It was a horrific death, smelt some smoke looked down and noticed she was frying in my pc. Luckily she didn't bring any others down with her, she was loved. I burned so many movies with her, made about 20 bucks one time burning some toku for a friend. She died with good memories behind.

There's an empty slot in my PC, AND in my heart.

So anyway, time to replace that special part of me with this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106037

Has blu-ray, is it worth it though? Sure I can burn and watch blu-rays on my pc but will it be worth the price? Or should I just save 300 or so dollars and get another dvd burner?

The blu-ray one will be worth it only if you plan on burning and watching blu-ray discs. Of course, if you ever get something in HD-DVD, that's a whole other story.

Or should I just save 300 or so dollars and get another dvd burner?
$300??? Dude, you can get a good quality burner that can burn Dual-layer discs these days for $200. Just do a little shopping around online or at stores where you live that deal exclusively with computer stuff (they have much better/reasonable prices compared to the big box stores like Best Buy and Radio Shack).

I thought of a blu-ray burner/player because in the future I'll be wanting to play them and possibly burn blu-rays on my pc and thought I'd upgrade ahead of time, for now I think I'll get 2 dual multi layer dvd burners since they're so cheap. Blu-ray doesn't seem that popular anyway. Burning 2 movies at once is hell of a cool thing:)
