Asperger Syndrome is when you're not aware if someone's annoyed of you, and you don't hesitate to show attitude towards others. Most of the time you don't even know if what you've said was rude, ill mannered, or if it made someone sad.
Sometimes you don't need to have Asperger's to have those traits. All you'd need to do is be a complete heartless and inconsiderate douche.
It's okay. Your mum probably thought that by keeping mum about it, you would live with a normal life. Because if you had know it, subconsciously you will be affected and chose not to hang out with anyone anymore.
I'm split on that statement. I'm thinking that knowing would be better than not knowing. I've had plenty of awkward moments in my life, and nobody seemed to understand me. Like Ore-sama, I've been told many times that I'm stupid, and have been called "retard", and it happened so often that I started to get concerned that it might be true. I actually brought up that concern to my mother once, and thought that perhaps she was been trying to pass me off as normal as to hide that there might be something wrong with me.
I have a friend who has Asperger's. Four years back, I had flown out to visit her for the second time, and that time around I got to meet her parents. Some time after I returned, she and I were chatting and she told me that she wasn't supposed to tell me this, but her mother suspected I might have Asperger's also. Something about how polite I was, how my friend and I got along so well, and how I'd try to make myself understood (whatever that means). I figured her mother might actually know what she's talking about though, since she actually raised a kid with Asperger's. Unlike some other people, who have little or no experience and are just so quick to label anyone as "retarded" just because they don't understand that person, and that they're just plain ignorant. She says that her mother can also tell if someone's gay, but I digress. So that's why I went and got tested, since I thought it would be better than not knowing. The psychologist I saw tested me and said that my condition is more of "pervasive development disorder", and not so much Asperger's although she states I have some of the traits that might constitute Asperger's. She said that four out of five of my motor skills are on point, though my problem is that I tend not to remember things I hear later on in complete detail.
The psychologist also wanted to meet my mother, and tell her about the results. My mother actually brought up the time where I asked her if I might be retarded, and cried, because she didn't think that I should have to wonder that about myself.
