Joe Odagiri on a JDrama

I saw this while watching TV in Japan a few days back......looks like he went for the dorky look this time!

It's also worth mentioning that Shinobi, the recent film Joe starred in, will be released on Region 2 DVD soon ... with English subtitles! CDJapan has it up for pre-order with a release date of 2/18/2006.

I see Odagiri on TV just about every day, seems like he's in a bunch of commercials lately.

I don't know the whole story about him not liking Kuuga, but I can't really blame him if he's ashamed of the two episodes with the Owl Grongi. :laugh:

I recall reading that, around the time Azumi was coming out, he said in a television interview that he wasn't too happy about his time on Kuuga, saying he wasn't fond of tokusatsu shows or the brutal shooting schedule. Since Odagiri fancies himself a diverse actor, I don't know if that's to be taken as "Oh, I was held back artistically on that show," or if he just wanted to brush it off while Azumi hit since he was getting noticed for awards and whatnot for that.

Either way, it sucks, really. I hate when actors badmouth or turn their backs on the things that made them big to begin with. Because when their fame begins to fade, they return to that thing that made them so ashamed to remain in the spotlight.

Thanks for the info. I also sort of remember reading somewhere (probably here) he didn't like the direction the show had.
