Japanese 101

I thought you guys would get a kick out of this.

I just started college on Monday and my favorite class is, without a doubt, Elementary Japanese. Yamashita-sensei is an awesome teacher, and really funny to boot. We've been learning the Hiragana since day 1, and he is using basic words in his lessons. He asked us if we knew how to say "south", and since none of us knew, he wrote on the blackboard what spelled out "minami". At the end of class when everyone else was gone, I asked him what "kotaro" meant, and if I remember right, he said that it was a passionate person's name. Then he pondered for a second, and asked "You know of Minami Kotaro?", then I struck his henshin pose and yelled "KAMEN LIDAH, BURAKKU!" We both shared a good laugh.

I took Japanese for my first year in college myself about two years ago. I failed, unfortunately, due to my inability to fully grasp the katakana. I'm taking it again this year to make up the grade however (and hoping I can actually pass), although Ishibashi-sensei and Putney-Sensei (writing and oral) seem to be moving a little faster than they did the first time I took it.

Makes me worry already.

I too wanna take japanese 101 but am afraid that i might screw it up. So I found those review sheets that they sell in the bookstore, they have some grammer and basic nouns, verbs and phrases. I got those instead but I still might take japanese 101 next semster.

Majority of Japanese are aware of Kamen Rider. It's like their star trek to a certain extent.
When I first started Japanese lessons in college, my professor was a huge rider fan. When we were learning vocabulary, one of the pictures he showed us was his drawing of Kamen Rider and believe it or not, it was actually on one of our tests to know what Kamen Rider was.

Looking back, it would've been cool to actually let him know that I was a rider fan as well but eh... oh well.

I'm taking Japanese 101 in two weeks when classes start up. Over $500 between the class and books - $405 for the class... roughly $100 for the books. Hopefully I'll do well in it since I've been studying kana on my own for the last three or four years.

Damn! That's pretty pricey. But you'll totally kick ass!:buttrock:

I totally wish that a summer Japanese language class was offered at the local university. That way I'd actually have something to do over summer holidays. :P

There are actually 2 universities where I live, and I went to the one that did NOT have Japanese language classes (kicking myself now for it). Mind you, this was before I got back into toku/sentai and Japanese stuff in general, so even if they DID have it, I might not have taken it anyway.
