Is "The Authority" the Blueprint for Modern Superhero Teams?

When I revisited "The Authority" recently, I couldn't help but feel that it laid down the foundations for how superhero teams are portrayed today. The dynamic between characters like Midnighter and Apollo feels way ahead of its time, not just in terms of representation but also in its willingness to push boundaries. The way they tackled issues like governmental authority and moral ambiguity was revolutionary back then and is still relevant now. With newer teams popping up all the time, I wonder if writers realize how much they owe to Ellis and Hitch's groundbreaking work. What do you all think? Is "The Authority" essential reading for anyone interested in modern comics?

While I get what you're saying about Midnighter and Apollo being ahead of their time, I feel like some of the more current superhero teams, like the Champions or even the Young Avengers, have taken that moral complexity and representation to a whole new level that "The Authority" laid the groundwork for, but didn't fully explore. Ellis and Hitch had their moments, but I think it's important to recognize how much more depth newer writers are bringing to these themes.
