The Impact of "Kingdom Come" on Modern Superhero Narratives

"Kingdom Come" by Mark Waid is often hailed as a classic, but I feel like its influence on current superhero stories is seriously underrated. The exploration of morality and the clash between old-school heroes and newer, more reckless ones still resonates in today's comics, especially in titles like "Doomsday Clock" and even "The Dark Knight Returns." When you think about it, Waid's narrative is a blueprint for how to tackle the complexities of heroism in an increasingly cynical world. It's a masterpiece that still deserves more discussion in light of contemporary storylines.

While I totally get the admiration for "Kingdom Come," it feels like some of its themes have been repackaged and diluted in modern narratives. I mean, "Doomsday Clock" was trying to recreate that clash of ideologies but just felt like a less impactful echo of Waid's original vision. Sometimes I wonder if we're over-using the whole "old vs. new" trope without really pushing it forward in meaningful ways.
