Interview with David Yost

Wow this interview took a turn... Holy ****... But it is great that he seems to what to get back in touch with the fans now also I can understand why he would want to distance himself from that point in his life for such a long time. I can understand fully why he left when he did, it just sucks so much that a bunch bigoted pricks ruined it for him and the fans since the Turbo set-up has always sounded awesome.

Found this after I found out that David Yost was at AFO a couple of weeks ago.

Is this his first time at a convention or has he been in others?

That's the one! Made me a better man.

They actually originally wanted it to be straight out Gay with Soren being male (even Frakes thought it was a good idea) but (and i qoute the Star Trek Wiki here):

Having Riker engaged in passionate kisses with a male actor might have been a little unpalatable to viewers.

So they make Soren into a female while still keeping the androgynous species with no concept of gender angle.

Quite possibly. I like cute, nerdy guys. I can't help it.

It also was cool thinking that he's his uber nerd who can't fight then when he transforms as the Blue Ranger, he suddenly can fight awesomely. Sure, it was a plot hole, but as a kid, I found it great. :anime:

hehe. I admit, I liked him for his brain. Yes, smart is sexy.

I still remember those "behind the scenes clips" they'd have at the end of certain eps where the actors/actresses would come out and talk a bit about things that went down in the ep. In the one I remember, Amy Jo was explaining the difference between movie world and real world. Specifically, explaining that Billy may look like a nerd in the movie, but in real life, he's an excellent gymnast. He did a free -standing back flip. I remember going, O.o! Snap!!

Wow. Parts 2 and 3 gave me a hell of a lot more respect for him. Billy was always my favorite ranger, but I'm pretty sure watching this has made David my favorite actor from MMPR. I'd never really heard why he left... but damn. I'm glad we're not so... caught up on sexuality nowadays. We've still a long ways to go, but damn. I had no idea it was so bad in the 90s. I guess that probably has something to do with being 8 at the time.

I have to say, that was a smart move. If it'd been a guy, I might have just knee jerked away right away and tossed out the message instead of being slowly drawn into it.

I almost don't want to think about it. Cuz he said the creators and producers... and those are people I want to respect.

But putting it into perspective, I was just becoming a teen when I learned better than to hate on someone because of their sexuality. And that was thanks to a maturing and changing American culture.

The creators and producers then grew up much longer in a culture where it was taught that was bad and grew up into adulthood that way. The times just didn't make for enlightened people unless you were young and/or exceptional.

Soooooo.... it's VERY possible the people being fucking shitfucks back then and causing him the grief they did... perhaps they've grown up like the rest of us.

...at least I hope so.

That's what I'm thinking, but it would destroy some of my childhood to find out if it was one of the other Rangers... :(
