Infernal Affairs

Watched it on Friday, anyone else on this board seen it?

For those of you whom are oblivious, its the Asian movie that The Departed was based on.

Loved the first part, loved the second part, third was okay.

The great thing about it is that unlike it's American remake, the original is more "Sherlock Holmes-y" as you watch both main characters try to figure out who the other mole is. The violence is more muted, but when it's used it makes a big impact (*cough* taxi cab scene *cough*).

Are you talking about the 2004 movie, or one of the 2003 movies?? Haven't watched them, but know they exist.
The American remake (The Departed) was 2006. As for the originals, the first Infernal Affairs came out in 2002, Part 2 (where they do a prequel set approx. 10 years earlier) was 2003, and Part 3 was also released in 2003.

Havent seen any of them yet but Im planning to soon. I hear they are much better that The Departed, which I thought was good but not great.

The Departed and Infernal Affairs 1 are so different its kind of hard to say which is better. Since the Departed took elements from Infernal Affairs II aswell.

Personally Infernal Affairs is one of my favorite movies, Andy Lau at his best . Infernal Affairs II is also a rather good prequel, a favorite of mine aswell but I wouldn't place it in my top 10. Never saw the Third movie. I first heard of Infernal Affairs in 2005 when I was watching the Initial D movie, which has most of the Infernal Affairs II cast and the same director I believe.

As for the Departed, its also a rather good movie if you can get past the "OMG ITS A ENGLISH REMAKE OF AN ASIAN MOVIE ITS GOING TO SUX0RS" mentality. I can't say which is better, I like both of them equally , although there are some loose ends in The Departed.

I watched the Departed before I knew that it was a remake of Infernal Affairs. Guess thats why I enjoyed it.
