I wanna Cry - The "NEW" American Gladiators

GOD I loved American Gladiators 15 years ago...who didn't? So I was incredibly excited for the revival especially since all the ads showed nothing but upgrades of all the classic games.

Then it began airing. no more to we have weekly contendors we have 21 people who get to be voted off the island...err I mean eliminated from the show.

An intro that sounds like the took Ninja Warriors opening monolgue and suplimented the words. And sob story segments for the "Competitors"

And no longer is it a family friendly competition of skill and strength. not 30 seconds into the first game, One of the gladiators snapped the first contestent like a twig, eliminating her from the entire show due to massive leg injury.

I shouldn't be suprised that in this day of nothing but crappy reality shows and terrible remakes they did this to a once proud show but I had really held out hope....especially when we saw the big Black Gladiator named "Justice"

Or you could watch the show and judge for yourself. I just finished with the 1st hour and I enjoyed in completely. And contenders where injured in the original version too, especially in a physical game like powerball. The original was pretty much a tournament too with the contenders trying to get to the tournament of champions

Memory and nostalgia are funny things. All the things you note, as mentioned in the earlier post were present back in the day. The 21 competitor things merely showed upfront what was there originally...22 shows times 4 competitors per show-plus alternates, comes to 88. And the new show will not be doing 22 eps, more like less than half.
My biggest gripe was that there was way TOO MUCH TALKING. I remembered the show as being faster paced, but while thinking about it, I realized that the sideline interviews were there back then...I guess we now live in such a posturing, braggadocio era, that the 'chats' with the competitors seemed far more annoying and more forced than before. And having an unseen mystery announcer calling the action, rather than the on air Hogan and Ali, drains even more fun from sitting back watching. Mike Adamle, Larry Czonka, where are you? :disappoin :redface2:

I only got to see the first hour, cause Faded stole the remote and changed it to Iron Chef for the second hour

I liked what I saw though. Especially how Venus came from behind in a HUGE way to win the last event.

I liked what I saw of the new Gladiator show, and I too used to watch the old one long ago. I agree with the too much talking though. No one cares what you do..just go in there and fight.

Of course, I had to listen to Brent catcall pretty much every chick on there...but Faiz REALLY has the hotts for Hellga. :laugh:

Venus did really awesome on the eliminator...man she just kept on going.

Yeah..I bet she could Crush YOU.

I kinda thought Wolf was alluring in a weird...animalistic way. Like a, "I'm going to pick you up with one hand, slap you on the back of my stallion and ride away with you." kinda way. A little too muscular for my tastes though.
