Hurricanger, 10 years after : your thoughts?

I've just seen the Hurricanger : 10 years after movie.
I must admit that the only impressive stuff about that movie is that almost all the Hurricanger original cast was back so long after the original series ended; otherwise, that movie was more annoying than anything else: during the first half, the characters behaved like idiots, especially the three Hurricanger; half of the guests coming back were utterly useless, like Oboro and her father, the Gozen Sama ersatz, and on the villain side, Wendinu and Furabijou (actually, calling them "villainess" is pretty misleading, since they pretty do nothing.
The final fight was more focused on giving the Hurricanger and Gouraiger's actors scenes where they could have fun than a real fight; seriously? Kabuto Raiger doing a fight while dancing? WHAT IS THAT? I know Ikkou's actor is involved in a band, but still. And Shurikenger? having that kid become the green "ninja of ninjas" was already weird, but NO GRATUITOUS ENGLISH? WTH?
Hurricanger is supposed to be about seeing those kids grow up: but frankly, it doesn't seem they really have done so during those ten years.

Sorry if I feel so harsh, but frankly, it was a real disappointement to see such a self indulging movie. Of course, I need to watch it subbed to have a more complete opinion of it, but based on what I've seen and my limited Japanese knowledge, I was still able to get a first opinion.

well, since I never watched Hurricanger and have only seen Power Rangers Ninja Storm, this had no nostalgia factor for me, and with that in mind, I found it very lackluster and disappointing. I feel like they just didn't put enough effort into the actual production, instead hoping that getting all those original actors and using a lot of clips from the series woulg get them by, but it didn't.

the story wasn't that interesting, and neither were the fights. it didn't help that we didn't get any real fighting until the final battle, and that wasn't really executed well. they didn't take the time to recreate the transformation sequences, nor remaster the roll call, instead going for a helmetless roll call that felt out of place since those are usually reserved for final episodes. next, the way the fight went wasn't satisfying since they just went for dumb antics out of suit, and when the battle drew to a close and the theme finally kicked in, it was just for HurricaneRed and Shurikenger to do a combo attack and then they just finished the bad guy off. what's worse is there was no mecha battle at all

what they should've done in my opinion was go for a more standard sentai fight format, where each of the rangers got to fight off the grunts in suit and show off their ninja arts, with the theme playing from the beginning of the battle, then of course have a mecha battle to top it off

a last think I'll say is I didn't like what they did with the new Shurikenger. though I haven't seen any episodes of Hurricanger, I know of Shurinkenger's gimmick and mannerisms, and they should've brought him back from the dead. if Dekaranger VS. Abaranger could do that with AbareKiller, then there's not much reason not to do the same thing here



although, with this year's sentai being the third instance of a dinosaur theme, I think that an Abaranger 10th anniversary special would've been a better idea in general for a project instead of this, since it's just makes more sense for a "__years later" special for a sentai to be for however many years after the year that series first aired, not years after when the one before it ended. so yeah, missed opportunity there

in which scene did the Hurricangers actually behaved like idiots? ever since their cameo in Gokaiger, I thought they were so much more mature and less annoying than during their early Hurricane days, especially Yousuke and Nanami who both went through Vocal Evolution. then again, I only saw their team-ups, not the series itself.

though I would agree with you regarding the Kasumi brothers' fight near the end, I simply despise any form of dancing in Sentai these days. I was also disappointed that we didn't get to hear the nostalgic "I am Ninja of Ninja!" quote, but hey, at least they didn't forget about Shurikenger.

my only complain about the movie is that it's the "Heroes are just pretending to be evil to gain something from the enemies" plot all over again, sigh! :disappoin

Hurricanger behaving like idiots?

Yousuke: did he really hope that he would have the villain keep his promise after he has done what he's asked? seriously? it's forgivable for a young naive warrior, NOT from an experienced warrior.

Nanami and Kouta : you see the one who steals the medals calmy surrender and then, you bring him EXACTLY where the other medals are? WTF?

I honestly didn't think much about it coming out, specifically because Toei has been on a Nostalgia losing streak. They keep bringing things back without understanding why they were loved in the first place. I figured this wouldn't be any different.

Ehh...I found this kinda disappointing...

Some of my thoughts while watching...

- Oh no...its a "pretend I'm evil" plot again...:sweat:

- Really Yousuke? Did you really believe the bad guy will simply just let him go?

- This kid is not a Ninja of Ninja. Give me the old Shurikenger...:disappoin

- The out of suit fighting in the final battle...yeah...I don't think that was necessary. :eyebrow:

I don't know...to me I can't find anything I liked besides seeing everyone back again.

I felt that this movie was just the cast gathering together to relive their fun days working together and goof around before the cameras. Making a Sentai movie came second. There's like, a semblance of plot, but really all they do is either actor performances or going "Remember how cool we were as a team?" It even has that same "I just pretended to be evil" plot.

I mean, maybe I would've liked it a lot more if I saw more of Hurricaneger than just a few episodes beforehand but then again, Eternal's movie was great without you having to really get into W beforehand and you could probably even enjoy Go-Busters vs Go-Busters a lot more than you could 10 Years After even if you haven't seen much of Go-Busters.

It's just either really lazy or they never intended it to be a good Sentai movie to begin with.

I admit this whole movie is just a filler to the show's original ending, but I enjoyed it. I know some people who finished the series will complain that Shurikenger's fate still not revealed because this Shurikenger is a brand new character.

But my biggest complaint is Yousuke, did he really need to be made into some edgy guy? I know it's been 10 years, but I prefer him in the Gokaiger episode because he just act as a senior. In this one he's so stupid for believing the enemy, this is even worse than "pretend to be evil" plot in Super Hero Taisen and Go-Busters vs Gokaiger.
