So the general consensus here is that MMPR v2 is an epic fail.
While I agree, it leaves me wondering how should it have been remastered/updated?
I think with a slightly larger budget from Disney, this could have been a great vehicle to bring in nostalgic audiences and build up some interest in the franchaise.
For "Day of the Dumpster," I would have wanted to see:
- the classic logo kept
- a brand new opening credits, the people on youtube did better ones than what we got: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hdk83mO5aEY[/ame]
- a remixed MMPR theme, either heavy metal or something like this: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Hzr6roqDOs[/ame] Not entirely necessary but it would be something fresh for audiences.
- A voiceover/intro doing a summary of the Rita/Zordon wars (perhaps using footage from the fanclub special)
- updated morphing sequences; perhaps with every morph shot leading to a shot of their helmet, like Jason's
- The whole "teleport teenagers to us" scene would be cut. It's more interesting if we first see the command center when the rangers are teleported there. It flows with the story better and there's some mystery to it.
- I'd cut out ALL the shots of the rangers posing. This was something RPM did right. It would tone down the cheesiness of MMPR bigtime to cut straight to the fighting without the rangers doing their little dances.
- I'd edit back in the scene of morphed Trini blasting the putties with her gun
- I'd update the teleportation effect shot to something more modern
I did like the updated effects on the Moon with the darkened footage and bright stars and the crisper, clearer footage... but that's about it I liked from the actual MMPR v2 we got.
