. . . I think we should be more wary of the "Grown up" phrasing myself, It just aims for a different atmosphere then Sentai does, which kinda lends itself to being taken a bit more seriously than Sentai usually does.


I usually find myself saying "It's a show in the same vien as Power Rangers, Expect it focuses on one man's struggle against against some sort of hidden evil, often using a part of that evil's power to survive in the battle."

Okay, seriously..

One of the big three longest running and most beloved hero shows in Japanese popular culture with the other two being Ultraman and Super Sentai which is "adapted" into Power Rangers every year. Often has a bit more of a dramatic tone and horror flavor to it with human scale fighting and action. (as opposed to giant aliens or robots).

It's a story about the loss of innocence and displacement of identity in the frightening urban jungle of a modern society targeted by the forces which are ultimately an allegory for our own latent darker nature, but also about rising above loss and forging your own way in the world through the simplest little things like love, friendship, bravery, and determination. It's also a story about jumping through the air on a motorcycle to synchronized explosions.

Well, that's only if they really want to know. Usually I just say "It's cool, we should watch some" and that does it.
