House of M Talkback

Well, HoM, the big Marvel event, is over... at least the mini is. The ramifications will continue to be felt for quite some time.

Since #8 came out yesterday, I figured I'd see what everyone thought about it. I thought it ended rather interestingly.

House of M #8 kicked off with everyone back at Avengers tower. Only the people who were present at the big battle remembered anything. Spider-Man is the least pleased about all this and I hope Bendis continues to address that fact in NA. Tony, Steve, and Carol don't remember anything but I don't think they were in the vicinity when the no more mutants thing happened. Dr. Strange was pooped, Layla is real and was awakened by her mother/mother figure, and doesn't seem to remember anything. Emma went to Cerebra to find all the mutants and of course there's only a few hundred... like 198 lol. Emma tells Scott that this is how Cerebra works and blah blah blah and Scott's all like bitch I've been here since I was 14, I know this ****... that was a funny-ass moment. Anyways, hey can't find Xavier, so they go to Genosha. Mags is there all by himself and Logan just freaking assaults him and is ready to kill him, but then decides that he deserves every moment he lives as a "sapien." The issue ends damn interestingly, because it's an interview with Hank McCoy, who is all like, what about all these people who have energy blasts, or energy fields, and so on, where is there energy? Energy doesn't go anywhere it just reappears in a different form. So what's the effect on the ecosystem, atmosphere, etc...

My thoughts on the series...

I thought that the huge kicker was that Magneto wasn't responsible for the developments at all. It was all planned by Quicksilver, and now we get to see the repercussions of that in Son of M. The big question is, after Wanda's declaration, will Pietro still be a mutant? From the looks of things, it doesn't seem as if Wanda still is, and Magneto doesn't have powers anymore either.

The thing with the mutants actually realizing that they don't have powers is interesting to me. I like the story possibilities that sets up. The one mutant take-away that I don't like at all is the fact that Iceman doesn't have his powers anymore. I like Hank's doomsaying type thing, because it could really eff up the Marvel earth. And the fact that they can't find Xavier on Cerebra... by taking away Xavier, you take away an important weapon and mastermind for the X-Men, so it will be interesting to see what happens there.

Maybe that's why Madrox and X-Factor form... to find Xavier.

Decimation starts next week!

Veeerrrrry interesting. Thanks for the recap!

I haven't read much, if any, Marvel for a while. I got burned out on massive crossovers and too many comics back in the late 90's. Now mostly I pick up non-superhero stuff.

But I still care about what's going on.

So, what happened to steal all these mutant powers? Have any of the core X-Men lost their powers?

What happened to wipe memories?

Indeed.

The reason why there's such a significant decrease in the amount of mutants is, when Mags found out about what Pietro did (Layla Miller "unlocked" him), he went apeshit pissy crazy and killed Pietro. But Wanda brought him back to life, said how they were freaks and none of this would have happened if there weren't any mutants, and then she said no more mutants, and the world changed back again, and Dr. Strange cast a protection spell so at least some of the mutants would be saved (particularly the ones at the battle).

So there you go.

It was a stroke of ironic genius in the end for Magneto, especially, since he became exactly what he wanted so much to destroy: a powerless human. For him, there's no greater punishment.

Oh yah! And Wolverine remembers everything.

EV-RY-THING.

No more memory blocks or whatever. There's gonna be a yearlong arc in his book about this.

I wonder if everyone will have to start calling him Jim now. lol
