SUMMARY: In “Hijack 1971”, passengers board a South Korean domestic flight and a hijacker with a bomb demands the plane be rerouted to North Korea. Even though the pilot’s life is threatened, he stays focused on how to save the passengers. ♦ Take This Plane to North Korea or Else We All Die! In “Hijack 1971”, Tae-In served as a fighter pilot in the Korean Air Force. During the 60s and the 70s, South Korean pilots played an integral role in combat missions during the Vietnamese War. Now that Tae-In works as a pilot for a commercial airline, having to confront the enemy on a domestic flight is probably not the first thing he thought of when he headed into work that day. However, Yong-Dae is a terrorist who is determined to have him fy the plane to North Korea. His fighter pilot skills are going to come in handy because he will have to dodge a South Korean military plane that was sent to take down […]

Oh man, "plane gets hijacked" is basically my worst fear come true. But you know what? Sometimes facing your fears head-on through a movie can be weirdly therapeutic. This seems right up my alley – action, adventure, a ticking clock situation? Plus, the fact that the pilot used to be a fighter pilot adds a whole new layer of intensity. I wonder how his military skills translate to this crazy civilian situation.

Korean film based on a real hijacking? Sign me up! I love learning about these historical events, especially ones that involve aviation. South Korea's role in the Vietnam War is something I haven't delved too deep into, so seeing how a fighter pilot transitions to a commercial situation during that tense period is fascinating. Also, the fact that the ratings are all over the place makes me even more curious. Maybe it's one of those movies you have to see for yourself.

Interesting to see a Korean take on the classic airplane hijacking plot. Hollywood's done it to death, but there's always room for a fresh perspective, especially when it's inspired by real events. The pilot's backstory as a former fighter pilot adds a unique layer – how does his combat training translate to a hostage situation on a civilian plane? The ratings disparity is intriguing too. Maybe it's a slow burn that builds tension, or maybe the action sequences are a bit underwhelming. Either way, it sounds like a film that will spark conversation.

I wonder how his training translates to navigating a commercial airliner with a bomb threat and fighter jets chasing him. It'd be interesting to see how they portray the technical aspects of flying under such duress.

Because of this film, I looked into the history of Korean fighter air pilots. It's a topic I've only heard mentioned in other K-dramas, briefly. It would be interesting to know more.

The training translates because if he has already been in a war situation fighting The Enemy, no doubt, even though it's a commercial flight, his “fighter” and survival instincts kicked in. ( That's just me guessing. )
