Holy crap that Stray Bullet teaser looks great!

I wouldn't be surprised to see that on Japanese TV over here either (considering so few shows are shot in extreme HD or on cinema-like film anyway).

Also he has knowledge of wushu.

His chances of crafting excellent action just went up a crap ton in my mind.

All I can say is that the movie won't be what you expect it to be. :P

But in terms of action, there's gonna be a crossover film where Gun Caliber challenges guns and fists with another hero. Who will it be? Just stay tuned.

As for DOING action, wearing a lightweight track suit doing Wushu and wearing a heavy-ass superhero suit with limited vision doing action are WORLDS apart. So try not to expect much of me in that thing...

Sorry for the thread hijack. :P

Anyways, back on topic. This guy should just get a job. And if he has a job, work overtime. He talks about being passionate, but hasn't talked about how much money he himself is putting into it.

But you don't get it man! He's all about working against the man man! Got no time to be working for the man to be later be working against the man!

On a somewhat serious note and thinking about what he said in the previous post, it sounds a lot like he reads up a lot on theory and suggestions about film making but not actually making a lot of to apply it.

It's like reading up on how to build a house but all he's made so far are tables.

You are now officially the coolest person on this forum. Talking Heads for the fucking win.

Damn straight.

Well apparently the egg is on my face, since he is making money. I suppose I will have to live with my impotent frustration.

 No way.

That's definitely the feeling I'm getting.

He's a dude who seems happy to talk trash about other people's babies to make himself look better. People like that rarely have the courage to post their own "real" work up for criticism. He's hiding behind his game reviews, tech demos, and hipster-chic Scott Pilgrim homages because then any comparison you make, he can just keep insisting that it's apples and oranges and his REAL project will put you all to shame.

(And also, that his oranges are WAY better than your apples, so don't even try saying otherwise.)

I like Dai's work. It's fun and refreshing. It stands for itself instead of "I made this to show that I can make something better" which makes no sense to me.

Why, thank you!

But I think there is some merit to creating promotional shorts in an effort to prove one can handle a bigger and better project, especially if one is trying to solicit funding. However, if one is going to do that, the promotional short should at least somewhat resemble the project that one is trying to get funded, otherwise it proves nothing.

For example: I am aiming for Ultraman Sorta Episode 3 (and 4 to an extent) to be a project that shows Lobsterdance Pro. is capable of producing a high quality, low budget tokusatsu short so that people can watch it, hopefully be impressed, and potentially donate money towards the production of, say, my original series idea, HOT BLOOD & SPIRIT, with the intention of it being a higher-quality, higher-budgeted series. This, in my mind, makes a lot more sense than making a promotional short that is nothing more than a mediocre Scott Pilgrim knockoff that somehow proves the filmmaker is capable of making some epic, effects-heavy masterpiece of a webseries. If people hadn't already bought into that idea ($375-worth of people!) I would say that no one in their right minds would be convinced by something like that.

I guess I'm the crazy one? :eyebrow:

Alright, I wasn't planning to post in this thread again so the OP is just running as around in circles, so I'll just focus on something I watched and frankly I'm shocked.

Your talking about using quite a lot of 3D elements in this short and part of the $1000 you're asking for is to pay for some. One you ask for is quite a large part of your main characters attack, which you have neglected to state how much is. That's fair enough, but you also say one of the things you want to buy is a 3D model of the Earth. What 3D modeller in the world doesn't have the ability to create an Earth, yet can rig and animate a complicated bone structure of a giant monster. Has he ever had experience doing any 3D modelling? I'm genuinely worried now people's donations are going to be squandered on this project. The Earth is a sphere for Gods sake. You could knock one up, texture and render in less than an hour. There's a billion tutorials online to even explain how to do it. What are all these 3D models you're planning to buy? How simple are they? How many polys? Are they textured? How much? What are you using to render? Have you done proper green screen work before? Adobe After Effects? Composition?

This is what we meant by making some test shots and show off what you can do. You have so many holes in your presentation it's very noticeable and somewhat troubling. You could spend an hour filming something, add elements of the effects you want to create and then we can see your abilities. That's how you're going to get donations and it'll take a day.
