I'll admit that back when he posted that he had a point. I didn't have anything on that level yet. Well, now I do and I can't help but wonder how he'd rip this one apart.

Ah, memories!

Honestly, you already had Carey beat in terms of artistic and technical whats-it, and I still scratch my head over how the Ultraman review or the Scott Pilgrim aping is a showcase of his abilities.

But as far as special effects go... hell yeah! I'd be really interested to see what he'd have to say about Oggra. And, his thoughts on making scenes like that himself!

Dude. That miniature cityscape looks so good it didn't even register that I was looking at a model until the very last shot, so I had to watch it again and kick my brain a couple times. Serious. Props.

The black and white helps a lot there, I think. But yeah, I do agree that the trailer was indeed really good. I love the font used and the narration, especially.

Thanks a ton, man! :D

Thank you! Give props to Birdie Num Nums for the most excellent intertitles. The narration was my doing. XD

Yeah, the fonts used were very appealing! Birdie Num Nums knew how to create/utilize appealing titles/fonts.

I was also really glad they didn't simply laze out and use the "Godzilla" font (the fan-made font from Toho's English Godzilla logo), which, I'm sorry, but it just looks ugly and unappealing. Fonts swiped from customized logos rarely work.

One of my favorite fonts to use for a "monster" type font is "Damaged Goods." In using fonts, the secret is, just try to be appealing and consistent. Jared and his crew got that downpat.

As for logos, I like to completely customize most of my own logos, because it's just so much more fun.

Here's some art I did with samples of my customized logos:

Well, whaddya know, Carey Martell's trying to raise another grand!

I still think the concept is terrible but I applaud him for a much more professionally put-together video for his pitch this time around. Still have no faith in his creative ability though, since he still hasn't shown us anything worth watching to that extent and what little can be gleaned from the documentary there doesn't seem terribly promising. I still stand by the "less money, more imagination" stance I took earlier in the thread.

He's definitely got the producer thing down pretty well, I'll give him that much.

Jared, if you could do an epic giant monster movie trailer for almost nothing, you could do a superhero show similarly.

I learned about the making of Godzilla films at an early age, thanks partly to a studio diagram from a book about Godzilla from the late 70s. I was absolutely intrigued, and wanted so eagerly to do something like this! I wanted to be the next Eiji Tsuburaya. So I decided to work on a small scale, using puppetry skills to manipulate toys (something I learned from another great hero of mine; Jim Henson.) Back in the 90s, I've done two fan-made Godzilla and Ultraman videos using Bandai toys, Micro Machines city playsets (which are really cool!), simple lamps (for "studio lights"), big blue cardboard backdrop (with painted clouds), and a makeshift platform laid over with a customized street map. The videos I did were HELL to edit (using very crude editing techniques), but the digital technology I used to make Big Guy on Campus (2006) would make it more luxurious.

And you know something? I could actually do more of those videos today if I wanted to! Just have to clear up my computer for more editing space, and get myself a new backdrop and lamps, though. (For that, I just have to go to an arts & crafts store for the former, and Wal-Mart for the latter, and it'll probably cost me about 20-30 smackeroos!) If I can do that, you can do that. And so can Carey.

And who knows? With this exercise, I can end up making a new Rekira video even better than my CG one! ;)

And look at Ultraman Sorta! It was just a no-budget Ultraman fanfilm done in your backyard! Originally done as a joke, it was a warm-up for things to come, and the short was met with great acclaim in the tokusatsu community. It was even better the second time around, when you took advantage of G-Fest! And while I can't wait to see what you'll do for the third one, you did Oggra, Voodoo Monster from Hell on the side! That short was incredible for a US-made kaijuu tokusatsu. Maybe it'll give us an idea on the quality of the next Sorta and other future projects of yours!

So Carey has two options:

-He can start G-Kaiser now, but start small, and grow as he works his way up. (It worked for France Five! Remember how crude the costumes were in the pilot? The pilot alone generated interest in funding for future episodes.)
-If he has high aspirations for G-Kaiser, do something on the side to exercise his filmmaking skills, like you did for Oggra.

And he'll be all the better for it.

Well, granted we've told him that over and over. Considering he thinks of his game reviews and pitch videos as legitimate parts of his resume, he probably thinks he doesn't need practice.

It'd be nice if he changed that tune though. Experience is the best teacher and all that. Honestly, I wish I could see the new video now. But alas, I am at work. No sound. :( I'll have to check it out later.
