Which, if you think makes me a ripoff demonstrates you do not know much about film-making

Okay, three things:
1.) I wasn't talking about your direction style. I was talking about the writing, which directly apes not the humor 'style,' but the
jokes themselves of Scott Pilgrim. Do you think changing it from "a magical land called Toronto, Canada" to "a magical land called San Antonio, Texas" suddenly makes it a different joke? That opening line sets the tone for the entire piece and it's not a pleasing one.
2.) So what, when people are walking out of the art theater in droves asking for their money back because your villain is a shameless ripoff of Dr. Evil and they saw all these jokes on Family Guy last week, are you going to stand outside the theater accosting people and telling them IT'S NOT A RIPOFF IT'S AN HOMAGE?
3.) If you do that, I hope to god you'll direct people to a slightly more professional source than TV Tropes to explain the term to them. Because when I see a guy linking to TV Tropes to try to explain how filmmaking works, my first thought is not "professional filmmaker." It's "4chan lamer with a camera."
And you know, maybe there are enough easily amused 4chan Scott Pilgrim/Toku fans with large disposable incomes who still think the mere mention of the Power Glove is funny, and maybe if you pester them long enough you'll eventually work your way up to that $1000. Just remember that you are
competing for their donation with about a hundred other webcomics, fan films, and professional projects that scratch that itch in exactly the same way, and may also provide something fresh in the bargain.
If you want to impress people so that they give you money, I beg you, show them
something, anything original. It can be a joke or a character or just a method of interaction between the characters. Something fresh to make them go "ah!" and want to see more. Then make
that your pitch piece. Maybe you have all kinds of crazy awesome ideas for later scenes in your project, but
none of that matters if we don't see them! No one is going to pay to see a mish-mash of things they've seen before just because it's more convenient to have their Power Rangers and their Scott Pilgrim and their Nostalgia Critic all in one place. And right now, that's all you're selling.
The less said about the constructive criticism/hypercriticism thing, the better. You could be any damn whiner artist on FF.net or DeviantArt right now, which would be funny if you weren't also asking people for large sums of money under the banner "support indie Tokusatsu."
Support indie Tokusatsu? I'm all for it. Support this project? No thanks.
