So I played the demo...it looks like it's gonna be a fine game, the controls are gonna have to take some gettin use too though.

I've gotten pretty comfortable with them. I'm going on Tuesday to play through the first half (possibly more if they let me)

I gotta say, for a game that's supposed to be all about immersing you in the story, the voice acting and script in the demo struck me as fatally weak. The dialogue sounded awkward as hell-- like, early PS1 Resident Evil series-level awkward. With games out there that have really good scripts and voice acting, there's really no excuse for putting out a game that looks this good and sounds this bad. It's especially jarring coming off of playing Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

I'll admit that the voice acting and writing is all over the place in this. Some parts feel good, but a lot of what I played (first half last week, haven't sat down to play the retail version yet till tomorrow) was kind of depressing in those aspects. I feel the game itself as a whole is great though.

Friend ruined the big twist. Sounds like the story is pretty awful but hopefully it won't ruin the whole game.
Not out for 3 more days anyway so please don't spoil more :(

Yes please, very anti spoiler here, use tags in you must.

spoilers aside, no matter how many times I do it, I can't get enough of Jayden's ARI office interface.

Just completed it with two of the 7 endings. It was exactly what I wanted it to be. The writing wasn't nearly as bad as some reviews had me thinking it was going to be, and if you managed to successfully avoid the spoilers, the identity came as quite a shock at first, though it sort of makes sense when you go back and think about certain things, like all good mysteries should. I still feel that the voice acting, as mentioned before, is hit or miss not only depending on the characters, but the individual scenes as well. And despite looking good (and it damn well does) there are still issues with clipping and facial animations. People walking through me in cut scenes just feels weird.

Not really spoilers, but[HIDE]Incidentally, I managed to end the game with two different endings from my final save. It's interesting just how much can change between the two from a few changes at the end.[/HIDE]

I relatively early on, but Ethan Mars is the worst dad ever, even when I got out of my way to make him awesome. The Detective and the FBI agent are great though. Haven't gotten to Madison.

Warning: The following contains spoiler tags for a reason, if you don't want to be spoiled, then don't click on them, additionally don't direct quote this post as they WILL appear in your screen while replying.

I thought so at first after the prologue (I thought he was actually a pretty good father there) he really started pissing me off. I really grew to respect Ethan later once he moved out of his emo phase, then he goes back into it again, but by the end of the game, I really started to feel for him. He earned my respect by the end.
[HIDE]I never actually bought into the game's trying to convince you that Ethan was the Origami Killer, it just seemed too convenient to believe with all the blackouts and then waking up in the rain. He went through a lot of **** to save Shaun too, maybe it makes me a bad father, but I don't know if I'd willingly chop off a finger, or drink poison for a son that was ungrateful as Shaun was at the beginning.[/HIDE]

As for FBI Profiler Norman (though I still think it should be spelled Nahman) Jayden. He's pretty cool. I like how you can play him as either a good agent, or just a fucking prick, and I still say I fucking love the ARI interface.
[HIDE]Throwing on the whole drug addiction is an interesting twist as well, watching how his world looks when he's fighting off his cravings and trying to keep it a secret from everyone around him was an interesting experience. also the fantasy world he created for himself within the ARI almost makes him seem like Batman, what with the mansion and the advising butler. He seems to have created his own superhero fantasy of sorts.

Scott Shelby, initially he started to annoy me. And I find it odd that they included the whole asthma thing to his character, but only actually made you do it once, everything else was just optional. As he develops more, he started to grow on me. His relationship with Lauren is pretty interesting, and you end up learning a lot about his past and motivation behind wanting to investigate the kill later in the game.
[HIDE]As much as I hate to say it, because the signs were there... I did NOT pin him as the Origami Killer until after it had been revealed. The whole thing with his past, and the death of John Sheppard (What is it with John Sheppards anyway, they seem to die left and right these days.) and his drunken father. A part of me wants to hate him for doing it all, but coming from a similar father, I can sort of sympathize with him wanted to find one single father who would risk everything for their child. Sort of the closure he needs to put his childhood trauma behind him. I'm not saying I agree with his methods, but the reasoning is at least respectable. I also liked how the whole investigation was just a cover so he could recover all the evidence that might be linked back to him.[/HIDE]

Madison, she's kind of a mixed bag. Some of the initial reviews (mind you a lot of these were troll reviews) said she shouldn't even have been in the game. I don't know about that personally. I think she'd have made a good supporting character for Ethan, but I don't know if it was necessary to make her a main character, mind you for the most part she is more of a support roll in other chapters. Over all she seems like a weaker female lead than Carla Valenti (Indigo Prophecy). It does look like she'll have stronger rolls in Chronicles (Heavy Rain's DLC side stories).
[HIDE]As mentioned, I think she made a great support character to Ethan. She was constantly there for him no matter how unstable his life became. Her introduction scene was a little WTF, and they never really did much to play up her insomnia later in the game. Her character in the game itself almost seems to be there exclusively to 'be the girl', giving her every horror/mystery cliche from a shower scene to a strip tease, to the rather out of the blue sex scene.[/HIDE]
