General Discussion Has Twitter & Facebook made fanbases more toxic?

I noticed this in the videogame communities, the comic communities, even the anime communities... When it comes to social media sites, the fanbases just seem toxic as hell. I can't deal with people and their nonsense on those sites anymore. People fight over the dumbest things and it just gets escalated out of control. Then you have people sending death threats and doxing each other for simply not agreeing on something.

Have these fanbases always had toxic fans or have they gotten way worse?
