Harmonix Employee's Thoughts on the PS3

Uh, Keith, Sony will come out on top "like they always do"? Sony was on top for the last two generations, sure, but before that Nintendo was on top for just as long, and whoever wins this generation, Microsoft or Nintendo, will probably rule the next one as well.

The Wii is already winning, sales wise. The problem is, developers aren't picking up on it and making killer games for the system. Those games are all heading right to the 360.

Huh, it's like the Sega Saturn all over again

Except the Saturn had fairly strong first party support from Sega itself.

And the people labeling Harmonix as 'unknown'...

http://www.harmonixmusic.com/

They've made PaRappa the Rapper, DDR, Beatmania AND Guitar Hero.

So not only are they NOT an unknown development team, they're actually the founding fathers of the music rhythm genre.

So yeah, this third party message actually DOES mean something.

PaRappa the Rapper, DDR, Beatmania, and Guitar Hero are simple games that don't require pushing the limits of the hardware's capabilities. Compare it to the likes of the Final Fantasies, the Resident Evils, the Metal Gear Solids, the Ratchet and Clanks, the Call of Duties, etc. They're in two different leagues. Apples and Oranges. Salt and Sugar. Soup and Salad. You get my point.
Had it been written by someone who had experience developing adventure, fighting, racing, RPG, sports games, etc then I would actually give it some credibility.

They make titles that sell. Ones that have been HUGE sellers on whatever system they're on.

That is far more important then whether or not their games 'push the limits' of a given system.

blah blah blah. People always talk trash about the PS system. In the end, none of that will matter. What matters is support. Will gamers prefer the games on PS3 or XBox after a few years. Time will tell.

I cant tell you how many freaking times I've read the old "This system is easier to develope for than SONY's system!" debate. Both times it was brought up Sony still came out on top. This is the third damn time and guess what, talking wont change the market.

About Nintendo winning. Sure, it will be hard for XBox to conquer the japanese market. Thats understandable without any RPGs or games that the japanese crowd want.

But Nintendo is dying. A year has passed and the Wii is going the way of the Cube. It doesnt have **** for games. Wii needs to pull off a miracle this year for me to have any hope in it

I really want No More Heroes for the Wii
And I don't even own one yet.
But No More Heroes and Umbrella Chronicles will pretty much be the games that will force me to finally give in and nab a wii for myself.

I'm not seeing it Garren. If anything it's the opposite.

Around here, everyone wants the Wii and is getting it while all big the third party games are going to it and the 360. MGS4 will likely be ported to both the 360 and PS3. And there's already been heavy speculation that Final Fantasy 13 will join it on both systems as well.

From what I've seen it's only the very low totem pole gamers, the ones that don't do their research and strictly buy the mass market games like Madden that even care about the PS3.
