The one time I tried driving in the snow (it was light when we started; we figured it would stop, but it just got worse) I got into an accident. The car in front of me skidded, started spinning, and turned broadside to me. Even though I was going slow and had a lot of lead time, my car just wouldn't stop on the slick road until it hit her in the driver's side door.
No serious damage, no one hurt, but I know that I was lucky as hell. Never doing it again. Remember that even if you're being a good, careful driver with a good car, not everyone else on the road will be. It's not worth the risk outside of an emergency.
