Black Version
Okay, I can't believe this hasn't been posted yet, but for those of you who haven't been paying attention to just about every gaming site out there, they've announced the track list for Guitar Hero 2. I shall dutifully copy and paste, with my comments in ROCKIN' ITALIXXXX.
Opening Licks
Cheap Trick - Surrender
Danzig - Mother
Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil I can approve of judicious use of umlauted bands.
Spinal Tap - Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight OH HELL YES SPINAL TAP IS IN THE GAME.
Amp-Warmers Kansas - Carry on Wayward Son I can totally get behind some Kansas.
Kiss - Strutter
Nirvana - Heart-Shaped Box
Police - Message in a Bottle Neat, I'd never thought of including The Police, but this will be a lot of fun to play.
Van Halen - You Really Got Me
String-Snappers
Alice in Chains - Them Bones
Black Sabbath - War Pigs
Foo Fighters - Monkey Wrench
Iggy Pop and the Stooges - Search and Destroy Whoa, Iggy. Cool.
Pretenders - Tattooed Love Boys Whoa, Pretenders. Cool.
Thrash and Burn
Butthole Surfers - Who Was in My Room Last Night
Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine Iconic, even if I don't really like G&R that much.
Rolling Stones - Can't You Hear Me Knockin'
Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend AW YEAH EARLY 90'S INDIE ROCK REPRESENT. I'm not sure how Matthew Sweet got into the game, but I'm damn glad he did.
Warrant - Cherry Pie WARRANT? Seriously? What, Winger and Great White were busy? If you're going to go with bad hair metal bands, at least throw us some Poison.
Return of the Shred
Aerosmith - Last Child
Primus - John the Fisherman The fact that Primus said "hell! we love the game, you want our studio tracks for the song?" makes me like them all the more.
Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name Of ...okay, I know RATM is overhyped, but I love them anyway.
Sword - Freya
Thin Lizzy - Bad Reputation
Relentless Riffs
Allman Brothers - Jessica
Heart - Crazy on You Now this really pisses me off to no end. </david lo pan> There's a Heart song in the game, AND IT'S NOT BARRACUDA. Even people who don't know Heart, even people who haven't even heard the whole song, know "DUNdadaDUNdadaDUNdadaDUNdadaDUNdadaDUNdadaDUNdadaDAADAAAAAAAAA bwaa BWEEEEEE" when they hear it.
Jane's Addiction - Stop
Stone Temple Pilots - Tripping on a Hole in a Paper Heart
Stray Cats - Rock This Town AW. HELL. YEAH. I'm just going to have to avoid playing it too much, lest my wife kill me for ruining one of her favorite songs for her.
Furious Fretwork
Anthrax - Madhouse
Lamb of God - Laid to Rest
Living End - Carry Me Home
Reverend Horton Heat - Psychobilly Freakout
Rush - YYZ This is actually not one of Rush's songs that I'm familiar with, but knowing a fair amount of their other stuff, I'm sure this one will accelerate my impending arthritis quite effectively.
Face-Melters
Avenged Sevenfold - Beast and the Harlot This makes me kind of sad, because until now, I've avoided hearing Avenged Sevenfold, and I kind of liked it that way.
Dick Dale - Misirlou This is going to be completely awesome, and at the end of it, my hands will be naught but bloody stumps.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird ...so when smartasses start yelling "Freebird!," you can actually play it?
Megadeth - Hangar 18
Suicidal Tendencies - Institutionalized Interesting choice for the former BatM spot, because I swear there are long rambling stretches of fairly mellow vamping in between the blazingly fast headbangy chorus sections. Then again, I haven't heard it in ages; most of what I remember is "all I wanted was a Pepsi and she wouldn't get me one!"
So that's the main game, and apart from the lack of "Barracuda" and Ash's "Lose Control," I couldn't be happier. They got a bunch of classic hard and alternative rock, some unexpected but highly welcome choices (Rev. Horton Heat? Iggy Pop? Motherfuggin' MATTHEW SWEET?!? Ehhhhhhhxcellent!), plus a smattering of 80's stuff to keep us old people happy. I'm not holding out much hope that they'll include some of the old songs as bonus material, but that would be cool. What I am conflicted about is that fact that the 360 version will have downloadable songs available. Between that and the zombie-killing goodness of Dead Rising, I am seriously considering trying to convince darwins_fox that dropping $400 on a new console would be a good thing. Me. Considering buying a Microsoft console.
Dammit.
