Gorjira on Blu-ray

Not sure about this Blu-ray transfer in particular, but in general you would still have the video on the disc running at the higher HD resolution rather than the smaller resolutions you get on DVDs. The results being a crisper picture thats not quite as fuzzy or jagged. Also depending on how other things like your TV, Blu-ray player, and how the Film was transfered you could also experience a wider range of grayscale, making your blacks blacker and your whites whiter, with more variety of gray in between.

Blu-Ray can make black and white films gorgeous if the transfer is high-quality.

A poor black-and-white Blu-Ray transfer really looks no better than an upscaled DVD.

I see it's out on Blu-ray but what can HD really offer with a black 'n white movie?.

If you mean the US release by Classic Media, I hear it's not all that good. The picture is dark and in low contrast. It's gotten mixed reviews, and is the main reason it sold poorly here.

The Japanese Blu-Ray from Toho is much better, from what I've heard. And from the screenshot comparisons I saw, that isn't saying much. Toho has done a stunning job with restoring their classic tokusatsu films for HD Blu-Ray releases! They put even the best DVDs to shame. Especially The Mysterians, which has never looked better!

According to the Ebay seller this version doesn't have Raymond Bur in it so I'm under the assumption it's from Japan/Toho's release... but I could be wrong and now that I know that I'll make sure the one I grab is the one you said.

For some reason I also thought Final Wars was out on Blu-ray. :sly:

The US release does not have the Raymond Burr version, ironically. It's simply Classic Media's transfer of the Japanese version. They had not gotten the HD transfer from Toho.

It is. In Japan.
