It was 10 years ago today, when Mom dropped me off near a movie theater after we had breakfast at Burger King, and she went to work. I got my ticket very early, and I waited anxiously the rest of the morning. I was the first in line to see it, along with a mom and her kids.
I was very pleased with this US version of Godzilla 2000: Millennium (Toho; 1999)! Never had I had such an opportunity to see Godzilla on the big screen after so long. I saw the movie in theaters three times! (Not on the same day, though.)
This is third to GMK and the 1954 original. The American 2000,unlike previous and later dubs ,was an improvement over the original pace-wise and the story was great.
Before Youtube got strict with it's copyright policy, I used to watch one of the Godzilla films each Saturday. Despite all the bullshit the film industry spew about how piracy kills them, it got me to buying every Godzilla movie since they got me hooked and they were goo despite the effects and low budget.
1. They were new to me. I never saw the first three Godzilla films, a few of the Showa period and none after since I was small and couldn't go to the theater and never heard about the later films or the 1998 remake. All I remembered were the Godzillathons that aired on TNT and that was it.
2. The Heisei series and up were huge mindfucks to my mind considering the vastly improved special effects. 1984 blew my mind because it was serious and i never saw a serious Godzilla film before. Prior to the reboot, it was all rubber suits and puppets, now it was suits , puppets and animatronics. They were on par to any film that was of the same year, well maybe not SpaceG or Mothra, but you get my point.
3.I picked up 2000 and the others after i found out that newer Godzilla films came out, via TohoKingdom.com and seeing the films.
4. I picked up Godzilla On My Mind and that is a great history about the fiml monster.
5. Around that time, I also learned of tokusatsu and Sentai, which was spurred from that Dino Thunder episode with the Enlgish dub of Abaranger. Also pretty nifty.
