GODZILLA 2000 - US release 10 years ago today!

It was 10 years ago today, when Mom dropped me off near a movie theater after we had breakfast at Burger King, and she went to work. I got my ticket very early, and I waited anxiously the rest of the morning. I was the first in line to see it, along with a mom and her kids.

I was very pleased with this US version of Godzilla 2000: Millennium (Toho; 1999)! Never had I had such an opportunity to see Godzilla on the big screen after so long. I saw the movie in theaters three times! (Not on the same day, though.)

I remember my dad bought me the VHS tape of Godzilla 2000 when I was in 5th grade. I watched it over and over and over again! I loved the new Godzilla suit and the updated roar.

And i shall watch my G2000 DVD tonight on this occasion.

This is one of the few time when a goofy English dub makes the movie better, since the Japanese version has been described as Dull and "Standard Fare".

Fun fact, Godzilla 2000 was the only movie of the X series (or the millennium series if you will) that got a wide release in American theaters, the other 5 only got as far as Foreign Film Festival's.

I remember picking this up in a bargain box ar Wal-Mart in second grade. I only has Godzilla vs. Biollante as another Kaiju film and got this on DVD. Most fun movie night at the time. Watched it over and over.

Not the best Godzilla film but definitely one of the most funnest movies to watch.

This was the first, and so far the only time I've seen a Godzilla film
(I am not counting GINO) in a theater. It was a very cool experience to see the King of Monsters on the big screen

It's the Millennium Series (Mireniamu Shiriizu). Toho's official name for it.

Don't forget that the film was also the last Godzilla film shown theatrically in the US. The rest of the films only got festival/art-house showings.

I thought the Japanese version was good! As some have said, more potential than is realized. (The music soundtrack has a lot of great music tracks that never got used in the movie!)

I have the manga adaptation by Mondo Takimura. It has a much better story! The characters are more involved, and have more backstory.

I remember going to see this movie in theaters, expecting a laughable dub. The dub was not at all that bad. I found very little to laugh at. Of course, this was a time in my life when I didn't know as much about Godzilla and toku and such as I do now. I think this movie even had a more memorable effect on me than the American Godzilla movie, which at the time were the only two Godzilla movies I saw.
