[Anime] Gatchaman CROWDS

I'm something of an anime n00b, so I know Gatchaman only by reputation. And yes, if this didn't have the Gatchaman name on it then it probably wouldn't even be on my radar. But I decided to give it a shot anyway. Using my limited references, the only way I can describe it is that it's like they tried to insert Ed from Cowboy Bebop into Tiger & Bunny (the suits in this show seem to have gotten a lot of praise, but on the basis of the two they've shown in the first episode, the designs aren't as cool as T&B's). For me it doesn't quite work. I might check out the second episode just to see what happens when it all settles down a bit, but on the strength of the first episode I can't say I really want to see all 12.

Gatchaman or not, I really enjoyed that first episode - largely thanks to having such a lovable protagonist. The art style and effects are really appealing to me as well, so I'll definitely be following this through.

Lovable protagonist? ...Really?

I couldn't stand her. Just listening to her made me frown forcibly with displeasure in hopes that she'd be quiet and act with some sense of decorum.

Eh, to each their own.

Personally I'd've probably watched anything with her as the protagonist, though admittedly that wasn't why I picked this up. She just oozes fun for me.

You're on a henshin fan site and you haven't watched Gatchaman?

That's basically required, man!
Well maybe when I've run out of fansubbed toku shows to watch I'll decide it's time to fork out the £70 for the region 0 boxset. It's a lot more bang for my buck than the Generation Kikaider releases.

I just got done with episode 2. When even the insane girl is saying that there's absolutely no reason to go around killing the tetris cube thingys, it really is the show's job to come up with a reason, not just go "ssshhhhhhh" and hope the audience hasn't noticed that you've just (repeatedly) pointed out that your own show is pointless :redface2:

They made it pretty clear, though? The reason they were killing them was to save people and so on - it was pretty clearly explained in the first episode. The only reason there was "no reason" is because Hajime got the same result of killing it by wearing it down and having it drop out all of the stuff it had presumably absorbed.

I'm guessing, from how things are looking, the show is going to be about Hajime being the oddball and changing the Gatchaman and helping them achieve more peaceful results in their battles, as well as just generally being a quirky oddball and getting everyone to open up or... something. I forsee lots of UNDERSTANDING ahead as well.

I think that it would have worked better if we'd had a few episodes without her prior to her "enrollment" so we could get a "feel" for what she was changing up by coming, but I guess you can't really have much of a show without the main character, so eh.

The premiere was pretty interesting..I just can't understand why they felt the need to slap the name Gatchaman in the title.

I must have missed something then. All I got from the first episode was that aliens are coming to Earth, disguising themselves as everyday objects or people, quietly going about their lives in their disguised role..........TO SAVE PEOPLE WE MUST KILL ALL THE ALIENS! Kinda missing that whole "reason" bit in the middle. They're not even threatening. When they are attacked their first response is to try to run away.

Let's compare that to the other group of aliens introduced in the first episode. A powerful being that chooses a target, uses teleportation to try and disorientate them and gain an opening, violently rips out their soul, and then starts issuing them orders to carry out assassinations. Oh, and a small panda-ish thing that constantly declares it's master's godhood, berates annyone who dares question their orders, and randomly bites people.

Yeah, at this point it seems like the Gatchaman are the bad guys. Even the new alien that appears at the end of episode two and hurts three people has more in common with the G's evil overlord than it does with the cubey things.
