[Anime] Garo - Honoo no Kokuin

If you think I am nitpicking, then I'm sorry, but I have seen many other animes that have done the exact same thing this series is doing, only better.

not specifically you but also the entirity of the episode 1 thread on TVNihons board. its really quite pathetic (them not you)

Although, I do think they shouldn't have made that Marcelo character's armour the same as some low rankers we saw at the end of Makai Senki, that's just so lackluster.. Should have at least showed it being corrupted by the Horror also.
Meh, they said he was still only a trainee knight so I didn't mind it being a generic. Though it implies more about all those "knights" fighting in Makai Senki than anything else. This did feel a bit more like regular Garo than the last couple of episodes. We have an opening narration, even if it isn't as good as the "Where there is light..." one. We even have an animated version of the regular generic Horror suit from the live action shows.

But yeah, stuff they couldn't do in live action? Well I guess they couldn't do the big rings attached to Garo's double scarves, but that's because they'd be stupidly impractacle and the anime can just treat them as being weightless. Otherwise, I guess the medieval European setting might be prohibitively expensive?

The show grew on me a little this episode. But atm it's still a question of whether this or 'The One Who Shines...' will be my least favourite, rather than seeing this as the series that takes Garo to the next level.

I'm enjoying it nonetheless, well the only few things that are saving it for me is German Luis though... and the fact that I like Pain/Tobirama's voice actor.

Although, I swear, this could be so much better. The only time I jump for joy is when I see animation of the armour, and hear the battle theme. That's about the only thing I could bear. And thank God Zaruba's talking around here. Felt like he didn't have too much of a role in Makai no Hana even.

Maybe, they really ran dry of ideas for Garo. Well, can't blame them. I pretty much ran dry of the motivation to do anything myself lately. Guess you could say I burnt out, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone at that level does too. Not saying I'm a pro or anything, but I can start to really see it fall apart though.

Let's hope this new Knight's backstory saves it for me though. I'm interested in this purple Knight. Although... one thing still has me a bit weirded out. So... why is it Zoro and not Zero again? And where's his Madou item? Could have been hilarious with something like Silva talking about how sometimes he needs to keep it in his pants, maybe insult a woman he's hitting on, by telling him he's had too much to drink that she's looking good to him lol.

source? this is first ive heard of it (though if true makes some sense)

IIRC it was somewhere in Makai Senki, it was implied in at least two episodes, and like you said makes more sense, Horrors are humanity's problem, not Japan's. Also, the fact that the "big guys"(save for Rei) guard certain "hotspots" makes it more probable.

As for the anime...it's above YamiWoTerasu(least favourite season) and Black Blood(second least favourite)...or I may like it just as much as BB but don't realise it due to Rei's butchering in his own series.

Now the rings, seems like it's only due to Leon's curse and the flames, the tapestry in the King's castle showed a proper Garo with the cape, like the first one from the Saejima's armour.

So... why is it Zoro and not Zero again?
IIRC way back in the first series of Garo, Rei confirmed that the title Zero and the silver armour were not passed between generations as the Garo title and golden armour were, but instead were a brand new legacy. So unless they want to retcon the live action show they can't say it's Zero. But they're clearly trying to channel him for Leon's dad.

I've heard Nihon said something negative (which honestly, I bet they wouldn't do if they were going to be subbing it, they would be blasting its awesomeness), but I haven't paid attention after their whole bs about ZyuRanger is not truly licensed unless Shout physically releases the DVDs. Yet, Garo is only licensed for streaming, but that means they can not do it. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

The Jam Project intro is nice and all...but it isn't GARO without the opening narration. I know they stopped after series 3, but still...the narrations from Season 1, Beast of the White Knight, and Makai Senki drew you in.

Flower of Makai (series 4) restored the opening narration. You really notice when it's absent. :disappoin

Honestly, I'm thoroughly entertained myself. Second favorite show of the season after Kiseijuu. Admittedly, I've only seen a little of the first series, but unless this is adapting or trying to specifically stick to that, I don't think epic comparisons should be made above trying to enjoy this as what it is. Wasn't it said a big part of this was doing things they could only do with an anime? Looks like they're doing great in that respect so far.

I was thinking about this yesterday, and this is how I see it.

Highlander.

Honoo no Kokuin is to the main show, what the Highlander cartoon was to the films. A mostly unconnected story using a different medium, with a different lead hero, with one or two familiar elements for those familiar with the source material (i.e. Ramirez in Highlander, Zaruba in Garo)

There are things I read online, and it's doing my head in with how many people are trying to make EVERYTHING fit together. Like how in some way, Raiga Saejima's story is going to end with him causing the Garo armor to turn black, making him Ryuga's predecessor, tying Raiga to a specific fate that for all we know isn't even canon, or part of Keita Amemiya's design (He was about as involved with season 3 as he apparently is with this anime). Then there are people who swear blind Zoro and Zero are the same characters, like there's only ONE Makai Knight who has silver armor and uses two swords:

Bado says hi.

Taken as a mostly-unrelated show, I'm rather enjoying this.
