[Anime] Garo - Honoo no Kokuin

Honestly, I'm thoroughly entertained myself. Second favorite show of the season after Kiseijuu. Admittedly, I've only seen a little of the first series, but unless this is adapting or trying to specifically stick to that, I don't think epic comparisons should be made above trying to enjoy this as what it is. Wasn't it said a big part of this was doing things they could only do with an anime? Looks like they're doing great in that respect so far.

the only big thing that they do in here that couldn't be done in the Live action is:

-put a girly kid as the main character
-move the set to Europe and hire tons of Gaijins as extras for 26 expisodes
-feature lots of armored fights

and even then that are just budget issue aside from problem #1

lousy plot where there's a lot of sex by a Makai Knight and the protags's job are labeled as evil entities in a select region, and there's something REALLY wrong with the Garo armor is very doable in live action, just see the 3rd season/Yamiterasu for that, since it's almost exactly the same as this in concept(which was now considered more as a spin-off that got swept under the rug, with Makai No Hana as the true 3rd season)

they did a good job of having the setting as far back as the medievals and far ahead in the future though, because if it sucked, then they can just disclaim it from the main series, unlike SS Omega, where characters from the original show appears and it's directly connected with the main show, that's a really hard thing to fix/sweep under the rug.

If doing things that couldn't be done in live action meant doing things that are lazy and inferior to the live action, then this series is succeeding. The opening is the worst opening for Garo ever. I don't mean the song, I mean the visuals that go with the song. It is lazy and boring compared to the openings the live action series had. The eye catchers are bland as hell. The armor looks terrible and no where near as flashy as the live action counterpart. The choreography was bland as ****.

He appears at the end of episode 3 and saves Alfonso from a band of Horrors.

There is suppossed to be a Garo armour in every country, or at least the top 4(Gold, Silver, White and someone else) since you know, Japan doesn't have Horror exclusivity.

According to Anime!Zaruba, every single Garo since the first one has had a Zaruba.

Episode 3 felt more like watching a Garo show than the others. It introduced technically, two new makai knights, and seeing that preview pic of the purple knight, thought it was that prince who's now on the run.
So then, Zaruba is just a strange horror trapped in a ring?

If you think I am nitpicking, then I'm sorry, but I have seen many other animes that have done the exact same thing this series is doing, only better.

To be fair, I do feel like the only few things they're doing that "only anime can do" is that it's being drawn out and that some action sequences do seem like it's something that a normal camera can't capture at sometime (though, I'm not saying it's impossible to film this, the rest is just easy as pie), and that's pretty much it. They aren't wasting money with the CGI on the transformation and suit costs, so... they can pretty much animate whatever character they wanna throw in, that's the only plus side I'm seeing in this.

Although, I do think they shouldn't have made that Marcelo character's armour the same as some low rankers we saw at the end of Makai Senki, that's just so lackluster.. Should have at least showed it being corrupted by the Horror also.
