Gamera: Revenge of Iris - OMFG

I was there too! Oh my fucking god, that's so weird. I was 11 at the time. I met him after he did his slideshow and Q&A, and then flipped out as I bought about 12 different figures from the vendors. I even got the 8-inch GMK Godzilla there  I live in NJ, so it was only about 30 minutes away from me. Small world. . .

I went on 27 at the time. AFFE is my all-time favorite convention. It was like meeting a second family. I met many fellow tokusatsu fans/experts whom I would otherwise normally talk to on the Internet: Keith Aiken, Jim Walsh, Dave Chapple, Richard Pusateri, Jim Cirronella, Gene Cahill (both of whom organized the con), and countless others!

I got the DX 12" radio control GMK Godzilla when I was there, and my brother got the Banpresto Maquette G2000 Godzilla.

While at the con, I met and took pictures with Kaneko, Teruyoshi Nakano (SPFX director from the 70s/80s), Carl Craig (who played boy scout Jim Morgan in Gamera Vs. Viras/Destroy All Planets), and Bandai representative Yasumasa Kawauchi.

Just sad that 2002 was the con's final year. That was the only Kaiju-based con in NJ. Now there are none.

I agree. I wish it were still around. (I wanted to go in 2001, but I couldn't, so I was very disappointed, and made a pledge to go next year.) I would've gone again in a heartbeat.

There are a couple East-Coast Japanese genre conventions in development, as I understand it, though whether they will replace AFFE remains to be seen.

When I get more details, I certainly will.

I would love to go to one around here. The next one I'm probably gonna hit up is G-Fest, if I get the chance! I've never been there, and that's the biggest Kaiju fest in the country! They have lots of Ultraman, Gamera, and KR stuff there too.

I hope I can finally go.

G-Fest is awesome.

Also, we're aiming to premiere Ultraman Sorta Episode 3 at this year's G-Fest.
