Friends: Overrated TV show or not?

So I post the question on RB and I get slammed by TiG to watch the whole seasons instead of selected episodes.

Guess I should do that.

Teenagers (particularly the girls) vocab is strictly limited and derived from the nightmare that is this ****.

Terminology include the overdose of "like, he said...she said..., oh my god, could this..." and many more.

Want comedy? Try Everybody loves Raymond. That's comedy for you.

I dunno. Using curse words is not far from "like, he said...she said..., oh my god, etc.". If you want to actually make a point about limited vocabulary, try to stop cussing and use one of the thousand other words that can be used instead.

I don't think you need to see the whole season to get a take on Friends. Don't listen to whoever at RB said that; one episode can sum up the essence of the show. And if you don't like it, it's probably going to remain that way.

I didn't particularly like Everybody Loves Raymond. I loved That 70s Show, which was similar to Friends. Maybe it's just my taste?

You know, it's funny. I remember getting pissed at Friends when it was first shown here in the 1990s. (Here being the philippines). I mean individually, the characters were funny but yeah I felt that they were getting repetitive and stagnant. That was then.

Recently, out of boredom, I borrowed a friend's Friends DVDs and ran a marathon (am up to season 9 now) and for some reason my wife and I enjoyed it more now then before. Maybe because, being in our early 30s, my wife and I had indeed gone through more of the Friends' experiences such as problems at work, paying the rent etc.

Yes, Friends is more than just preggers and the "break" I agree that you can't just watch "selected" episodes.

BUT

I still don't like it as much as Everybody Loves Raymond and Frasier. There are just more levels of humor in those two. I'd tie Friends with Seinfeld, though.

And I don't agree that one episode can give you a feel for the show. Some episodes can be outrageously good and others maybe sub-par. And I mean this for any given show.

friends is good in moderation watch a marathon, and that revolver at the bottom of your drawer marked "in case of emmergency" will look pretty tempting :laugh:

It's a sitcom. It fit the mold of what a sitcom was supposed to be. More importantly, it struck a nerve and gained an audience with millions of people. Critically speaking, it wasn't the most profound series, but when you look at it, it was never meant to be that way. Whether or not people here think that it sucked or not, you can't deny that it did what it set out to do, which was to be a commercially/financially successful show.

I was agreeing with you, and then you blew it. If there's a show more overrated than Friends, it's Raymond.

Watch Arrested Development if you want true funny.
