Football (soccer) in toku

Some examples off the top of my head...

- In the first episode of Goranger, Kaijou/Red is seen playing soccer before his base is attacked. Since he's a soccer player, some of Goranger's finishing moves are soccer related.

-In an episode of Liveman, Yuusuke/Red Falcon teaches a kid how to do an overhead kick.

-In an episode of Dairanger, the Three Idiots challenge Ryou/Ryuu Ranger and the team to a soccer match in order to free Ryou's kidnapped sister.

-An episode of Megaranger revolves around Kouichiro/Mega Black's soccer skills. (The actor was a high-school soccer champ in real life.)

-An episode of GoGoFive has Daimon/Go Yellow briefly coaching a (bratty) kid.

-Kai/Magi Red played soccer for his high-school team regularly. (Magiranger DID fall on the 30th anniversary of Goranger, so there were a couple of soccer-related attacks, too.)

-Shinji/Ryuki briefly snaps and tries to relive his soccer glory days in a scene in the Kamen Rider Ryuki Special. (He even references David Beckham).

-Tendou/Kabuto plays a bad game of CGI soccer in an episode of Kamen Rider Kabuto.

-Ryusei/Metalder studies up on soccer and coaches a kids team in an episode of Metalder.

There's also the ending credits of Ryukendo.

Sentai definitely goes for a sports thing more, I think, because of the whole team thing...

Movie Wars Megamax came out shortly after Nadeshiko Japan had won the FIFA Women's World Cup, so Nadeshiko Misaki was named after them and had a Rider Kick based on the winning goal. There's little to no coverage of women's football here (UK) so I'm glad it seems to be better-known in Japan

It's a shame that Soccer wasn't the theme in the series.

Because Fruit Rider Soccer sounds way cooler than street dancing.

oh god all the final attacks would be kicking fruit at the inves! can you imagine with Baron!?
Damn, this would have been a thousand times better.

Episode 13 of Kamen Rider, which was the end of an era/saga/arc/whateveryouwannacallit, had the featured monster, Tokageron, transformed from a famous football player (in the show, not in real life I think).
Tokageron used a rock-bomb-ball-something and kicked it around to cause destruction. Rider 1 had to learn a new technique that in many forms of media has been regarded as his most powerful finisher, the Denko Rider Kick. Here, he uses it not on Tokageron, but on the ball, kicking it back to him and thus making Tokageron (and a dozen other kaijin) explode.

I also remember an episode of Kamen Rider BLACK that had Kotaro coaching a team of kids.

Just happened to come across another instance by accident today, so I thought I'd mention it. I was checking out the live action incarnation of Fūma no Kojirō. Episode one, and they have ninja dressing in drag to "help out" in a girls football game between two schools. It seems that was more important than watching AU Kuuga fighting Rei from Garo. :anime:

However, while we're in the subject of soccer in Toku: Gaorangers

How is this related to the topic at hand? Also:
"FOOTBALL JA NAI, SOCCER DA!" (Considering my home country (Philippines) used the British word than the US word, so #endrant)

At first, I was like, "Wait, how do soccer balls work in defeating an enemy?" Then you realize that each time that a senshi hits the ball, it gets stronger & stronger, as there's a bomb inside. Then it becomes a spiked ball once the scene switches to Akaranger/Vul-Eagle & then the ball turns into a object depending on the certain monster of the week (doesn't happen in the beginning of Goranger or Sun Vulcan, though it definitely happens later on).

I thought Boukenger was the 30th series...

Yeah, but Goranger lasted for two years and the franchise had a year off while Toei did the Japanese Spiderman show, and they've never reeled both of those years in. So the number of years since Goranger started and the number of the series have never really matched up. It's been 39 years since Goranger started, but ToQger is the 38th series.
