Astro Bot is the game that loves you back. Not only is it one of the greatest games of 2024 (THE best according to several awards ceremonies), but it keeps improving upon itself. Shortly after launch, five speedrun levels were added to the game as bonus DLC. That Christmas, a new holiday-themed level suddenly appeared, and now starting today we’re receiving five additional levels over the next five weeks, without warning. How much would you expect to pay? $5.99? $9.99? No! These Astro Bot DLCs are absolutely free! The only condition is that you have to have beaten the game…which shuts me out; I got it last Christmas and am still nowhere close to the end (with a game this good, I want to take my time). Today’s free Astro Bot level is Tick-Tock Shock. With swinging electrical barriers and charged objects, it’s on the difficult side and requires split-second timing. “Unlike our last update Winter Wonder, which was a walk through the Xmas park, this new update features harder levels to test your jumping skills,” says a new blog post. “Each level comes with a brand-new Special Bot to rescue and, once that’s done, can be replayed in Time […]

It’s pretty clear to me that these new levels are a direct result of all the awards Astro Bot has won. When a game gets that much recognition, companies want to keep the momentum going, and what better way than with free content? It keeps players engaged, brings in new ones, and reminds everyone why the game deserved those accolades in the first place.

Sony and Team Asobi likely saw the overwhelming praise and figured this was the perfect way to capitalize on it. It’s not just about rewarding existing players—it’s also about making sure Astro Bot stays relevant in conversations throughout the year. A game getting post-launch content like this usually means the publisher sees long-term potential, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is leading up to a sequel announcement. Maybe these levels are even testing mechanics for the next game.

It’s also a smart way to encourage more people to finish the game. By making the DLC available only to those who have completed it, they’re subtly nudging casual players to push forward. That’s a clever move that benefits both the players and the developers.

Either way, I’m not complaining. Astro Bot deserves all the recognition it’s gotten, and if that means more free content for us, I’ll take it. Hopefully, this sets a precedent for how award-winning games should be supported after launch.

Astro Bot is fantastic, but I’m starting to wonder if this slow content drip is hinting at something bigger. Are they testing mechanics for a sequel? Maybe PlayStation wants to keep interest up for future hardware? Free DLC is great, but I’m more interested in what this means for the franchise long-term. Hopefully, they’re not just stalling while figuring out their next move.

Time Attack mode with online rankings? That’s all I needed to hear. Astro Bot’s platforming already rewards precision, so having leaderboards just cranks up the motivation. I’ll be grinding these levels to get in the top spots. If anyone else here is serious about getting good times, let’s compare strategies.

I got a PS5 recently, and Astro Bot is on my list of games to pick up. This makes it even more tempting. A game that’s already highly rated and keeps getting free updates? That’s rare. I don’t mind waiting to play, because by the time I get to the end, I’ll have even more levels waiting for me.

This is fantastic! I picked up Astro Bot over the holidays, and I've been slowly making my way through it. I'm not quite finished yet, but this news gives me even more motivation to get there. Free DLC is always a welcome surprise, and it's clear the developers are dedicated to keeping the game fresh. I like that they're increasing the difficulty with these new levels. "Winter Wonder" was fun, but I'm ready for a real challenge. The names of the upcoming levels are intriguing too. "Cock-A-Doodle-Doom" – what could that possibly be? I can't wait to find out. I also appreciate the Time Attack mode and online rankings. It adds a competitive element that will definitely keep me coming back for more.

Wow, five new levels? That's amazing! I'm a huge Astro Bot fan, and I'm always impressed by the creativity and polish of the game. I'm particularly interested in seeing how they incorporate the new Special Bots. They always have such unique abilities, and it's fun to figure out how to use them to their full potential. I'm a little behind on my playthrough, but this news definitely pushes me to finish the main game so I can jump into these new levels. The fact that they're free is just the cherry on top. It's clear the developers are passionate about this game, and it shows in their continued support.

I'm curious about the difficulty of these new levels. They mentioned "Tick-Tock Shock" is challenging, and I'm hoping the others will be too. I enjoy a good challenge, and Astro Bot always delivers. I'm also intrigued by the names of the other levels. "Thrust or Bust" and "Hard to Bear" sound particularly interesting. I'm excited to see what surprises they have in store for us. I just started playing a few weeks ago, and I am hooked. I can’t wait to catch up and play these!

This is awesome! I love Astro Bot, and I'm so happy to see that they're continuing to support it with new content. Free DLC is always a great surprise, and I can't wait to see what these new levels have in store.

The names are certainly interesting, and I'm curious to see what kind of challenges they present.
