Guys, this is one of the Metal Hero Series (the "Rescue Heroes" part), the one-time sister genre of the Sentai Series! So of course it looks like B-Fighter (or as you, uh, call it, ugh, Beetleborgs) and whatever got used for VR Troopers, cuz' they're in the same boat!
BTW, I not only saw, but HAVE many episodes of Exceedraft (the tapes I rented from at the Japanese supermarket Meiji-Ya back in 1992 usually had 2 eps of Exceedraft and 2 eps of Zyuranger paired together, so that's how I saw them, at least until I moved out of NY at the end of the year, unfortunately). Not the best show, quite dull in spots, but the action's okay. The hero armor & vehicles are great, though (especially the Exceedraft team's wrist-worn guard that pops into a whole shield)! Makes me wish I had Bandai toys of those! Thanks to some kiddie magazines I got from Meiji-Ya, I had already heard of Solbrain and Jetman the previous year, as well as seeing pics of Godzilla Vs. King Ghidorah!
Speaking of the Exceedraft shield thingy, my late friend Martin King (some of you might know him) told me of someone in Japan, who was wearing one to a Toei Superhero-related event (at a con or at one of those Korakuen shows), and during a conversation or argument, when his friend made an angry gesture (he thrust his fist aside), his wrist guard accidentally popped into the shield, which startled a lot of passer-by! An embarrassing but funny moment! Something like Densha Otoko could parody this!
