LOL! Awesome picture. Im sure PS3 will still top of the sales charts simply due to popularity and third party support. It's sad. People point out Nintendo's weaker graphics as a fault but I think it's a blessing.
Imagine how the development companies feel, having to get better and better every 4-6 years. It takes 4 years (sometimes) to make a game and even then the game doesnt really perform well or its really short. Why, because they had to focus their entire budget on making the game look good enough for the current system, and spent no time on just making a good and fun game.
Since Nintendo's graphics wont take a huge leap ahead of Gamecube, developing companies can actually get their foot in the door, and program games that are worth something. They dont have to focus on making even BETTER graphics or focus on "Catching up". They can just work with what they are already familiar with and improve the game play and quality.
I seriously feel that Sony and Microsoft need to STOP producing new consoles. 360, PS3, and Wii should be it for at least 10 years. That should be it. Let the effing game developers catch up. Let them breath, give them time to actually get a grip on the technology.
As it stands only long time, well established companies can make the best use of the new technology. Only companies like Konami, Capcom, square, etc can truly hit the deadlines, have the money to survive in that crazy buisness but imagine a new company trying to get off the ground. Going from nothing to uber graphics then having to keep improving each year.
I think Zelda OoT cost Nintendo over a million dollars to make? Imagine wtf these new generation games are costing. I mean ****.
The game industry will die if they keep pushing the graphics every 4-6 years. Game developers need time to catch up and get comfortable. To grow. They need to be allowed to stand for a while before having to run another marathon.
Im rambling now. Nintendo has it right though. We dont need better graphics. We need better games right now and game companies cant focus on making better games when they are forced to make the games LOOK better.
