E3 2009: The best one in some years?

I am so sick of this "rip off" bullshit. Unmei was right when he said the only people that scream rip off are the fanboys who only care about backing their company of choice. It is all innovation, and it all helps the gamers.

I agree completely. I love the 360 but it could benefit greatly from a web browser,

The thing is, it IS ripping off Nintendo. Nintendo made the video game world's jaws drop with what they accomplished and both Sony and Microsoft are now playing catch up.

Doesn't mean these motion controllers might not be cool... if they can pull off what they promise, then they might have something. Unlike At the Movies... I got that and it's ****. Doesn't even work. :P

I'll agree that the Wiimote was very impressive when it was first announced, then I got my hands on it and realized how limited it was. Outside of a handful of games, most of it's uses have been more of an embarrassment than a revolution in gaming, and I'm not includig it's use as a lightgun in this, since that can hardly be justified as new technology since we've had those for going on 70+ years. Maybe the + attachment might fix some of the issues, but it's still got a long way to go.

If three completely different technologies, all of which existed long before either company's consoles were even announced, is ripping something off, then yes, but you'd be hard pressed to justify that statement to any unbiased engineer or anyone who knows anything about accelerometers or physics in general.

Let's not forget that Konami had motion sensitive arcade games long before the Wii was released. It's a completely different technology behind them, but of course, it has to be a rip-off, because it's all motion sensing.

Who even cares who rips off who?

Why do we pit one company against another?

It makes OUR experiences better, no matter who's name is on it. Let's just be happy that gaming is advancing to the next level, people.

Yes yes yes. Thank you. This is it exactly. I swear I don't get why people can not get this. Thank you faded.

Which is the entire point I've been trying to make, to the point where I'm willing to go into it on a base and technical level. People scream ripoff, because it creates drama, and gives them something to do, but all it really does it show just how close minded they can be.

I think gamers, as a culture, would be better off getting to know more about tech specs behind their consoles and controllers. Not only would it give them a greater appreciation of all the work that goes into it behind the scenes, but it would prevent things like this whole 'ripoff' bs that's going on right now.

I've open up a wiimote, taken it apart, found otu what makes it tick, and reassembled it. I've also build a (all be it very crude, since I'm not blessed with the funds for a REAL one) mo cap system several years ago. I know how different the two are.

I'm also a former console modder and firmware hacker. I know the inner workings of every system from the last 4 generations. I doubt that means anything to anyone other than myself and the people I worked with, but it gave me a better understanding of my hobby. One which I'm happy to have.

I've said some harsh things about sony, but that is because I know how great they can be. The PS1 and PS2 proved that. IMO the PS3 isn't living up to it's potential, but that doesn't mean I am going to do like some and bash it, at least not anymore. I can see now what that crap looks like.

Take toku for example. Even the shows I might not like over all have some good things about them. Even if you HATE the video game company in question WHO THE **** CARES? It's about the games, the new innovations, and the fun.

For those of you that want to scream RIP OFF, you really should go back in time and look at where cames have come from. Everything we have now is evolved from the past. Does that make everything we have now rip offs from the past?

Lets all remember that the Nintendo Zapper (1984 ii believe?) Considered rather revolutionary by most old school gamers, isn't any different in it's principle than the first light gun on a 'arcade machine' back in 1936... Hell that very first light gun was used to shoot flying ducks on a screen, all nintendo added was a dog! INNOVATION!!!!! XD
