I'm not good with strategy...I just go in arms flailing. Not sure if there is a good strategy to fighting that. Just go all in and try as hard as you can.

I got it this morning. Not sure if it was the fact that I was dropping cold magic left or right, or pure luck - Aveline moved slightly to the side of the stairs, and it forced the mages to come down to me where I swiftly murderated them. After that, cleanup was easy.

if you've spent ability points in the force mage tree, get the stasis skill (icon has a picture of a snail) and it's upgrade, it's the most broken technique in the game, if you couple that with Petrify in the Nature skill tree, you can keep an enemy frozen in place for 30 seconds.

20 seconds of upgraded stasis, then when it wears off drop a petrify for another 10 seconds, recharge repeat, works on all bosses.

Ah, I beat the Arishok one and one as a mage. It took a couple of "MAkers Gift" potions and tries. Because I was mostly just all damage with my mage and area-spells. But I repooled my talent points so taht I could freeze, stun, shock the boss consistently and eventually kicked his ass.

Always save and always keep Makers Gift on you.
