Finished the movie off last night and overall I must say this was such a great movie.
So Donnie was dead right from the point the Airplane jet fell through the roof. I just don't get why he was still in a world where he was alive.
The part where Frank takes the mask off and shows his true face was pretty sick too. Shot right in the eye.

He wasn't "dead" from that point, it was an alternate timeline. Frank had "saved" him by luring him out of bed when the crash occured, so all the connections with time and metaphysics had to do with Donnie recreating the timeline to set things the way they were supposed to be to save Gretchen and thereby preventing Frank and his mother and sister from being killed as well, with himself being the sacrifice.
