Nope. As a matter of fact, Kakuranger is a thousand times better than Hurricaneger.

So I started watching Kakuranger and onto episode 9 or 10 (the one with the baby yokai I forgot the name of it) and I'm loving it. I seriously am thinking Jiraiya is my favorite Sentai character of the 90s. And I know Tsuruhime's my favorite female character now officially.

Being that DaiRanger is my favorite Sentai and KakuRanger is my second favorite, yes, it gets better. KakuRanger is split into two acts. The first act is much more silly with some bits of serious, the second act is more serious with some silliness to it. Plus, Junior/GashaSkull is one of my top favorite Sentai villains of all time. I also love ZyuRanger, but it is more like my 10th favorite Sentai.

And come on, the narrator is awesome, but yes, he is not in the second act outside of one episode.

I agree that the narrator is the weakest point for the series. However I don't know much about yokai so for me he did help me with my mythology of Japan.

The narrator is someone who's there to bring an element of traditional Japanese stage plays/manzai into the show. Like Shinkenger, Kaku is sort of an ode to traditional Japanese arts.

Of course, annoying is a legitimate subjective complaint, but a little perspective makes the experience better..

I'll be interested to watch Kakuranger if I can find a decent sub for this series. I saw Hurricaneger but imo it was only an average sentai series.

GUIS are in the process of subbing it. They just released episode 39 a few hours ago. If you intended to wait until the sub was completed, I wouldn't have thought it would be too long. AFAIK Hurricaneger only has HK subs, doesn't it?

Harorangers subbed like the first 5 episodes and then just stopped. They also left off on CarRanger 22 and that was like a year ago.

Found the folktale about the "Kitsune Wedding" in 40 rather interesting. Would definitely recommend everyone take a gander at it's wikipedia page when they get the chance because it explains the part about Kitsune thinking that the money was a pile of leaves in disguise


Also, does anyone know what the two songs were in episode 37 that played during the dancing segments?

I saw the entire Hurricaneger series on Youtube at work (watched it on mute with sub). There were other sentai series back then, but not long afterward Youtube took all of them down due to Toei's demands. I watched some Maskman too but didn't finish it before the purge.
