[Discussion] Ninja Sentai Kakuranger

Am I the only one that thinks the untransformed ninja garb look a lot more badass than the transformed spandex suits?

Also pockets. Spandex has no pockets. Where do they keep their ninja stars?

I like their ninja suits quite a lot as well. Kakuranger's suits always seemed very simple compared to the average Sentai suit - which I suppose is the idea, it's just interesting to see such a plain looking Sentai suit.

With Sentai, even when Red isn't the team leader, he's the main character, so he's almost always going to get focus over other characters.

I agree. Red sentai senshi's are considered the symbol of Super Sentai in general, even when some Reds like Ninja Red, Mega Red, Time Red, & Geki Red aren't leaders.

I love the theme song.

As much as I love the theme song, "Ninja Big City Kids" is loads better

Agreed, if only the non-movie American versions looked as badass. Instead they looked like KKK outfits. Oh Saban, you're not one for sensitivity are you?

Episode eight...in which you may be slightly disturbed by the cat monster with bright yellow boobs :confused2

FOOL! ARE YOU NOT ENTICED BY A PROUD MEMBER OF THE NEKO CLAN?!!

She can also shred like a BAMF on the guitar

Also, did anyone notice how much the MOTW from episode 7 looks like Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury?

AH! I'd forgotten about the American movie ninja outfits! The Kakuranger ones look better even than those though. Mask > Headband.

It's a shame the style of the movie Zyu-suits didn't catch on. KR is the only one of the 3 big Toku franchises that's seriously moved away from spandex. Well, not counting Go-Busters. But thanks to that show we probably won't see that style of suit again any time soon.

Kamen Rider was pretty much always doing the armor thing though. Even when they used spandex, it wasn't the focal point of the suit like Sentai stuff tends to be. Though I do like that they went away from spandex below the armor. I think Faiz and OOO were the only ones to use spandex and they both look a little off to me because of that. (or at least a material that looks a lot like spandex)

Guys like Ninja Red, Mega Red, Time Red, and Geki Red may not be the leaders of their respective teams. But their suits were designed for the leader. Being the leader of the team and being the guy who gets to wear the leader suit are two different things.

The order of the suits for the Kakuranger team was supposed to be red, white, yellow, blue, and black. Yet it's the one in the white suit who got to be the leader. The Megaranger team has the suit order being red, black, blue, yellow, and pink yet black is the leader. Timeranger was the same as Megaranger with a black being swapped for green. Yet ironically pink (who's number is 5) is the leader.

So I'm up to episode seven and I legitimately can't decide which is more awesome: that the villain is clearly modeled after Terry Bogard or that Tsuruhime has to disguise herself as a hamburger. This show is very much the fun kind of insane.

After having watched the latest releases of Kakuranger by GUIS-HS I can officially say that I'm really enjoying the series. The comedy actually works really well for me, which is almost never the case with Sentai. It has the right amount of action, comedy, and ridiculousness that made me fall in love with tokusatsu in the first place. Jiraiya is especially amazing. Seeing what is essentially an American being represented in a show is awesome. It's even better that he's a complete badass and has great comedic timing. I'm also really enjoying Tsuruhime. There can never be enough super competent female characters in a show. The fact that she's also the leader of the team is just cherry on top.

Really glad this show is finally being subbed and looking forward to the rest of the series.

First time he showed up I was like "why am I not surprised that he's dressed up like a cowboy and not a ninja?"
