Digimon Data Squad - Talk Up!

The thing that is really taking the heat, though, is the "DNA Charge" edit. I personally don't get why they changed it to that either.

"Spirit Evolution" "to Execute! Spirit Evolution!", I can understand but DNA?

Why do you care if they change it. I really don't mind.

I don't really have that big a beef with it, I was saying other people I've seen do. For me personally I just am a bit confused as to their choice as, from what I know of the plot and the series itself, "DNA" doesn't really fit with what is in store for the characters, especially when it is a part of a crucial plot device for the entire series arc. Furthermore from the snippets of quotes I've caught, it doesn't lend itself well to the dialogue.

The term Digisoul is goddamn important, because the final arc of the show has Digisoul as a major plot device. DNA just sounds weird. Furthermore, you burn up your soul with emotions, but I've never heard of igniting your DNA with your passion. :eyebrow:

In fact, Marcus/Masaru will use his Digisoul to defeat Yggdrasil, god of the Digital World. I wonder how they're gonna make Marcus use his DNA to defeat a god, because that needs some powerful DNA. Furthermore, he's gonna use his DNA to seal up a dimensional portal. Now that's a major WTF. Digisoul just sounds better, and makes more sense.[/HIDE]

I don't like US anime openings visuals mainly for the fact that they tend to use a lot of flashy battle or action scenes. Japanese anime openings tend to have more symbolic things that make the opening seem deeper. US ones are made to capture the attention of hyperactive kids, and I can't fault them for that, since they are the target audience. Still, seeing YuGiOh have a 101 monsters appear in the US opening made my head dizzy. Not to mention that stupid, "It's time to du-du-du-du-el!" Sounds like an idiot stuttering to me.

The song's not bad though. Pretty short; the rock isn't fast paced enough for me, but it's acceptable.

Episode 1 up on youtube!

Overall, pretty well done. They included alot that I expected would have been taken down or altered, and other than the DNA edit, I think this thing is off to a good start.

I do wonder though why they left "EVOLUTION" during the sequence and yet they were able to edit the door sign. Go figure.

EDIT: New info straight from Jeff Nimoy (the director of this season and some seasons past) from Withthewill.net
Spoiler Note: If someone can tell me how to put up the spoiler cut I'll hide anything if wanted to.

Marcus calling Agumon his employee was a joke (based on Agumon calling him boss), it rarely comes up past episode 1.

Now, for the big complaint people had....

DNA

It stands for something else, it is NOT referring to 'DNA'

DNA as it is referred to in Data Squad replacing the Digi-soul stands for....

Digimon Natural Ability

DNA will be explained in episode 12, so stop the complaining lol...

So it is an acronym not related to genetics, still a little weird thing to change but its alright I guess.

US openings and endings largely depend on the series.

For most if not all straight anime dubs, the openings are unchanged, as shown by Gwing, and even Naruto.

'Adaptations' which is what Digimon is, and what Funiball Z was, are heavily changed and altered.

'DNA' change is for the lip flap I think.

So we have some hot Ino x Iruka action in store.

See. I knew Nimoy isnt that stupid.

Anyways, great episode. Good to see Dubbed Digimon again. Looking forward to episode 2. That should shut up those complainers.

people complained about the "employee" thing? Oh god, what wont they complain about. lol. :anime: That sounds awesome though! Who is this Nimoy guy? someone who works on the show? (Im terrible, I simply dont pay attention to the credits.)

Definitely gonna give this episode a second watch for fun.

Topic 1: Jeff Nimoy
Jeff Nimoy was one of the co-writers for the Digimon dub during the Fox Kids years (Seasons 1-3) as well as writing/directing the dub for Digimon: the Movie and the Digimon TV movies (at least Diaboramon Strikes Back at any rate). He was also a voice actor for many of the characters including: Tentomon/Kabuterimon/MegaKabuterimon, Young Gennai, and other random voices. Currently he will voice Dr. Spencer Damon, Kamemon and other small roles (i.e. the policeman in "There are Monsters Among Us!") as Data Squad goes on.

[FYI: The Digimon TV movies as well as Data Squad were dubbed by Studiopolis who Jim Nimoy works for in writing, voice acting and story editing. They're also the company in charge of the dubs for Naruto, Afro Samurai, Zatch Bell!, and Megaman Starforce [Ryuusei no Rockman].]

Also unrelated to Digimon, Jeff Nimoy has notably voiced Nicholas D. Wolfwood in Trigun, Kanchome from Zatch Bell!, and Joe/Viewtiful Joe from Viewtiful Joe. Also he is the second cousin (once removed) of Leonard Nimoy!

Jeff is actually quite responsive towards the fandom. He even went to the fans, creating a poll to determine likely candiates for the voice actors for Data Squad when he started setting it up! He also has a myspace group which also works as a QA forum for him here:http://groups.myspace.com/index.cfm...n=B28EE3D0-FD6C-42FC-B822BDA17A82B98D55114469

Topic 2: D.N.A. and its likely origins
The D.N.A. isn't actually a new concept. It originated from the predecessor to the Digimon iC (the term for the Digivice in Data Squad and yes it's based on iPods) game, the Digimon Accelerator or Accel for short. The Accel has similar functions to the iC, most notably the use of hand placement in order to unlock new forms and levels. D.N.A. is from the Digimon Data Plates, card like plates scanned to unlock different Digimon and items, some being more rare then others. If anything the useage of the term is a throwback to the Accel and thus solidifies the idea as something that is in the menagerie that is Digimon canon while still aiding to avoid any FCC issues or issues with Disney. At least that's what I've been able to determine.

Here is the Accel if anyone wants to see it:
http://shiningevo.ultimatedigimon.com/digimonaccel.html
and here in the Digimon Accelerator section
http://lcd.wtw-x.net/

Note the similarities to the iC's design and the useage of various Data Squad specific monsters (those who saw the original Japanese version will know what I mean).
