Did you know Buffy's lore got a major expansion 27 years ago?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer's lore really took a leap 27 years ago, introducing some of the best characters in the franchise. The original movie, written by Joss Whedon and directed by Fran Rubel Kuzui, set the stage for what we would come to know and love. It's fascinating to see how that early groundwork shaped later stories.

"It led to some of the best characters."

While I appreciate that the original movie set the stage, I think worth mentioning, some of those characters didn't really get the fleshing out they deserved until the TV show came along. I mean, characters like Spike and Willow truly evolved into fan favorites, but the film's version of Buffy feels so different from what Sarah Michelle Gellar brought to the role. The show had the chance to deepen those relationships and actually explore their complexities. It's fascinating to see how the expansion really shaped the franchise, but I do feel like the groundwork laid in the movie was pretty shaky compared to what followed.
