Describing Toku in veiled terms.

I've found that this is often the best way to trick a newbie into the world of toku. Appeal to their intellect first, go for the kicks to the face second.

For instance, if I told you we were going to watch a J-drama "that explores humanity and the loss thereof, where every character is hiding a frightening secret," Would you know what it is?

Or what if I said "A modern family discovers that magic is a living force waiting to be channeled through human hands?"

Or my personal favorite "It's the saga of a knight living up to the legacy of hundreds who came before him."

Then once you get them through the first episode, they will be hooked. It's 82.45% guaranteed to work.

.... Or I could just tell them it's a Japanese superhero show. Really, as long as you choose the right shows as ice breakers, it's not a big ordeal to expand toku's viewing audience.

No, I tricked my housemate into watching Faiz and now she's obsessed with Kamen Rider. It does work.

At a recent BBQ with my friends, we all had a bit to drink and wanted to watch something, so I suggested Garo: Beast of the White Knight, saying it was "stupidly awesome." They lapped it up.

Why trick people into it?..... If they ain't fans then they ain't fans. I recall a friend of mine trying to get me into Anime and I'm still laughing at both him and that genre.

Man, you don't know the half of it!

A lot of anime fans I meet are usually either cynical technogeeks or snotty and superficial poseurs. They're only into one or two elite genres in the anime & manga mediums (they should be mediums, not genres). And I mean, they make me want to throttle them.

Then, you have the few anime fans who actually find tokusatsu interesting! They may not LOVE it, but they like it, which cheers me up.

Yeah. I might just be trying with the wrong people, but however I try to cajole them 95% percent turn to me as soon as the theme song starts and go "You like Power Rangers?!"

Yeah, I get that a lot... :redface2:

Best thing is to never, EVER mention PR to them. If they bring it up, I tell them it's a completely different show, unrelated in any way to PR. If they still persist, then they're probably wasted effort, so i politely tell them off.

Unless by some off chance the person actually likes PR, in which case you can use that to your advantage. I haven't run across such a person yet, however...

I know, that is sooo annoying!

Like when I had a Kamen Rider Black wallpaper at my school and some idiot said that.:shakefist:shakefist:shakefist
