As always, I'm late to the party and just recently went in on an
XBOX 360 with my brother. I've had some fun with it so far, but the only games we had to kick things off were the
Gears of War series, which isn't really my bag, so I was looking for something that would hold my interest a little better and found it in
Dead Space.
I'm sure there's already been a lot of discussion and praise for this game here on the forum, as it contains many elements that we as fans of Japanese entertainment are familiar with and enthusiastically enjoy, but I didn't see a thread so I figured I'd tack one up just to say that this is one of the most fun, immersive and well-crafted games I've played or seen played in a very long time. The cinematic nature of the story is captivating even if it is somewhat underdeveloped, and really allows you to become involved in the situations you play and in getting out alive. But it's the look and design of the game that really hooked me. Aesthetics abound, from the ship itself and style implemented in the technology and futuristic attributes to the stage layouts to the battle armor, horrific enemies and the beautiful and haunting vacuum/exterior segments.
The sound production is pretty stellar, too. The absence of overt music really adds to the spooky atmosphere and the brief snippets of panicked music effects add tension to deadly encounters and make startling surprises that much more startling.
Fantastic voice acting to boot, which is important. Bad voice acting can become annoying and distance you from the unfolding of the plot, but the cast of
Dead Space all do their roles justice and make the characters seem like people. I'm about a third of the way toward completing the game already and I'm starting to dread seeing it end, but that still leaves me with the infinitely cool looking sequel to play through.
Anyone else have fond experiences or favorable opinions of this game?
