Dead by Daylight’s next licensed chapter is set to bring a surprising twist to the asymmetrical horror game—Tokyo Ghoul. While most Dead by Daylight killers are traditional villains, this chapter marks the first time an anime hero takes on the role of a killer. Ken Kaneki, known as “The Ghoul” in Dead by Daylight and the protagonist of Tokyo Ghoul, is stepping into the Fog, but not as the hero fans know him to be. Kaneki is widely recognized as a tragic hero in both the anime and manga, a character who struggles with his dual nature as a human-turned-ghoul. However, in Dead by Daylight, he will be portrayed from an alternate timeline where he has been brainwashed, making him a relentless and terrifying predator. His transition into the world of the Entity doesn’t feel out of place at all—Tokyo Ghoul’s dark themes, grotesque transformations, and intense psychological horror fit seamlessly into the game’s grim aesthetic. Fans can expect Kaneki to bring his signature abilities into Dead by Daylight, possibly incorporating his kagune (the ghoul’s unique predatory appendages) as a powerful attack mechanic. This crossover is sure to excite both Dead by Daylight players and Tokyo Ghoul fans alike, offering […]

I’ve been a Tokyo Ghoul fan since high school, so I was a little shocked when I heard Kaneki would be a killer in Dead by Daylight. At first, it felt wrong. He’s a victim of circumstances, not a villain. But after thinking about it more, I realized that the version of Kaneki they’re using makes sense. The story already explored his darker side, especially in the later arcs where he loses control. In a world like Dead by Daylight, where everything is distorted and brutal, I can understand why they’d go with the brainwashed version.

The integration of Kaneki into Dead by Daylight is a fascinating commentary on genre fusion. While he originates from a dramatic and psychological anime, placing him into a Western-style horror framework allows fans to see his character through a different lens. Kaneki’s narrative has always been about trauma, transformation, and duality. Portraying him as a killer—albeit brainwashed—exaggerates those themes to their logical extreme. It’s not out of character; it’s an extrapolation. I think Behaviour Interactive understands that horror is not always about evil—it’s about pain and what it turns us into. This crossover will likely stir debate, but that’s what strong storytelling should do.

I’m really excited about Kaneki joining the killer roster, but I do wish this chapter came with a new Survivor too. Part of what makes these crossovers special is getting both sides of the story. Kaneki didn’t become who he is alone—he had people like Hide, Touka, and even Nishiki in his life who shaped his journey. Having someone like Hide or Touka as a Survivor would have added more emotional depth and let fans experience the dynamic between them in gameplay. I understand Rize as a skin adds flavor, but a full Survivor with unique perks and voice lines would have made this chapter feel more complete. Even a Survivor skin with voice work or small narrative elements would’ve been a nice touch. It’s a missed opportunity in my opinion, especially since the fanbase for Tokyo Ghoul is so character-driven. Maybe in a future update, they can consider adding someone on the Survivor side to balance it out.

I love Tokyo Ghoul, but I’m tired of seeing Kaneki used as a symbol of violence. The manga spent so much time showing his emotional pain, how he tried not to become a killer. Turning him into one, even in an alternate timeline, feels like it ignores that growth. I know the game is supposed to be horror, but couldn’t they have made him more of a tragic figure? Something like the Wraith—silent, sad, but terrifying? Instead, it feels like they made him edgy just to sell skins.

I think adding Ken Kaneki as a killer was a smart move. It makes sense from a design perspective, especially considering his transformation in Tokyo Ghoul. His descent into madness fits with Dead by Daylight’s tone. I’ve been playing for years, and crossovers often walk a line between fan service and balance. This one feels like it could work, at least on paper. I just hope they make his perks unique and not just reskinned mechanics we’ve seen before. The cosmetic content is welcome too, but I prefer new gameplay changes over skins. If this opens the door to more anime horror characters, I’m all for it—just keep it consistent with the game’s atmosphere.

Oh, this is super exciting! I’ve been waiting for DBD to add more anime content. People always ask me on stream if there will be anime killers, and now we finally got one! Kaneki is such a strong choice. His powers and look are perfect for this game. I hope this gets new people to try DBD too. Some of my viewers never cared about horror games until this crossover. If they bring in more anime, I want something like Parasyte or Elfen Lied. There are so many creepy anime that would be great here.

I’m happy to see more skin options. I collect all cosmetics in Dead by Daylight, and the Tokyo Ghoul collaboration gives me a reason to log back in. I would’ve preferred a survivor as well, but getting a full killer with skins is still good value. The Legendary Rize skin was a smart addition. I hope they continue offering content from manga and anime series, but they should also revisit older horror films and lesser-known franchises. Balance between new and classic is important.
