After watching Speed Racer I started having fantasies of what I grew up as an Asian kid of the 90's: Future GPX Cyberformula. For those who don't know this show, it is one of Fukuda Mitsuo of Gundam SEED fame's masterpiece to some spawning 4 OVA sequels after its run was over on TV. The story is about Kazaki Hayato, a early teen who accidentally gets registered for a racing car Asurada, which is also the name of the AI computer installed. Because only he can drive it, he becomes the driver and facing off with various rivals such as Shinjo Naoki of AOI Formula, Knight Schumacher, and the infamous green-haired Super Saiyan Bleed Kaga. It also has a little bit of the Speed Racer element as there is also stuff related to the secret of Asurada and his father who developed it. Other than that, it is also one of the series that shows you the evolution of illustrator Inomata Mutsumi's drawing style from my POV as you can see a gradual development throughout the artwork from the TV show to the final OVA, Sin. So, onwards to my rambling, I thought I would make a fantasy roster of which actors would make a good fit for the roles of some of the characters even if it means making it a trilogy or whatever. SUGO Winners


Kazami Hayato - Kamiki Ryunosuke (KR Agito, Gakuen Tantei Q, Great Yokai War): The protagonist of the show. Originally an established motorcyclist, he gets accidentally registered by Asurada after fleeing from some guys in black suits. Throughout the show, he develops into a racer and a man. Drives the Asurada GPX, followed by the Super Asurada.

Sugo Asuka - Ohgo Suzuka (Memoirs of a Geisha, Sexy Voice and Robo): Lead Heroine of the show. Daughter of the CEO of SUGO and is around the same age as Hayato, she is the race queen/support crew for Sugo. Later on in the OVA she studies to be a nurse so she can tend for Hayato when in need.

Jyonouchi Miki - Komatsu Ayaka (PG Sailor Moon, Master of Thunder): Chief Mechanic of SUGO Winners. A young woman in her late teens, she later falls in love with AOI's racer Shinjo Naoki and transfers in the OVA.

Sumi Ryohei "Pei" - Mizoguchi Takuya (KR Den-O the Movie: I am Born): assistant Mechanic of SUGO Winners who later is promoted in the OVA after Miki leaves. Although still a kid, he knows what he is doing when taking care of Asurada.

Maki Shinsuke - Kataoka Shinwa (Go-onger): Programmer and support crew of SUGO Winners. He is the average nice guy with glasses on who knows his way on the keyboard.

Kurumada Tetsuichiro - Akaboshi Shoichiro (Guyferd, Gransazer): Manager of SUGO Winners. He and the fathers of Hayato and Asuka worked together when they were young hoping to build their dream car.

AOI Formula

Shinjo Naoki - Kato Keisuke (Kamen Rider Kiva, Happy Boys, Hana Kimi): The 19-year old ace of AOI Formula. He drives the Superion and is seen as Hayato's first rival. Originally cocky and arrogant, he later becomes Hayato's friend as he comes to respect him and even give him advice at troubled times. He also forms a love relationship with SUGO's chief mechanic Miki.

Bleed Kaga - Araki Hirofumi (Gekiranger, Prince of Tennis): The second racer of AOI. He drives the Stealth Jaguar. Energetic and cheerful, he is Hayato's friend and rival throughout the series. He later gains a more prominent role throughout the show as he becomes the protagonist in the final OVA Sin.

Aoi Kyoko - Ueto Aya (Azumi, Ace wo Nerae): Owner of AOI Formula. Young and headstrong, she takes pride in leading her team with their top ace Shinjo Naoki. Later on has a slight romantic relationship with Bleed Kaga.

Union Saviour

Knight Shcumacher/ Sugo Osamu - Tamaki Hiroshi (Water Boys, Nodame Cantabile): The Racer X of the series, he goes under the alias Knight Schumacher to protect Hayato from Mssing Link, that want Asurada for military purposes. He is also the older brother of Asuka and later takes Tetsuichiro's place as owner of SUGO Winners. Driver of Knight Saviour.

Karl Richter von Randoll - Freddie Highmore (Willy Wonka, Finding Neverland): Osamu's replacement. A prodigy in his own right, he is also considered to be Hayato's rival even trying to win the affection of Asuka at times. Driver of the Issuxark.

Otomo Jyoji - Igarashi Shunji (Ultraman Mebius): An off-road racer who becomes friends with Hayato. Driver of Albatrander.

Jackie Gudhelian - Sean William Scott (American Pie): A racer from America, he later forms a partnership with German racer Frantz Heinel.

Frantz Heinel - Hayden Christensen (Star Wars, Jumper): Originally a racer, he later finds interest in behind the scenes and forms his own team with Jackie Gudhelian as the main racer. His designs are known to be eccentric and innovative winnning him and his partner a championship in the OVA Saga. Drives the Silent Screamer.

Edlehi Bootsvorz - Mark Musashi (Garo, Cutey Honey the Live): Originally a racer that was enlisted in the team that wanted Asurada for military purposes, he later becomes his friend as well. He was a friend of Osamu before the show and they have rekindled their friendship after the TV show. He joins SUGO in the end of the OVA Sin. Driver of the Missionel.

A good cast for a Cyberformula Movie! I liked how you brought up the ideal cast but I hope the folks who did the Speed Racer movie will pick this up too, as long as the folks you pick can speak fluent english.

I had it for a Asian audience in mind with the American actors as cameos. Not to leave out anyone, but, having this released like how Ong-bak and The Host did is how I envisioned it.
