Crunchyroll isn’t all anime. Okay, they’re 99.9% anime, but they also occasionally export things that aren’t animated. One such example is coming up: they just announced the acquisition of LiVE is SMiLE ALWAYS -LANDER-, the concert film for Japanese pop star LiSA. If you don’t know who LiSA is, you only think you don’t: her songs have been heard as themes on Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (“homura” from Mugen Train and “Gurenge” from the anime series); My Hero Academia (“Datte Atashino Hero”), Sword Art Online (“Crossing Field”), and The Irregular at Magic High School (“Rising Hope”). Chances are you’re familiar with her work without realizing it. LiSA released her first album in 2011 and rose quickly from there. She was ranked as the #1 “Most Played Japanese Overseas” in 2020, and her Demon Slayer single was ranked as the #1 “Most Played Japanese Songs Overseas” that same year.
