Crunchyroll Acquires North American Rights To Concert Film For J-Pop Star LiSA

Crunchyroll isn’t all anime. Okay, they’re 99.9% anime, but they also occasionally export things that aren’t animated. One such example is coming up: they just announced the acquisition of LiVE is SMiLE ALWAYS -LANDER-, the concert film for Japanese pop star LiSA. If you don’t know who LiSA is, you only think you don’t: her songs have been heard as themes on Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (“homura” from Mugen Train and “Gurenge” from the anime series); My Hero Academia (“Datte Atashino Hero”), Sword Art Online (“Crossing Field”), and The Irregular at Magic High School (“Rising Hope”). Chances are you’re familiar with her work without realizing it. LiSA released her first album in 2011 and rose quickly from there. She was ranked as the #1 “Most Played Japanese Overseas” in 2020, and her Demon Slayer single was ranked as the #1 “Most Played Japanese Songs Overseas” that same year. LiSA? That name sounds familiar... oh yeah, Demon Slayer! I never realized her songs were in so many other anime I watch. This concert film sounds interesting, especially for someone who's new to J-Pop but loves the energy in anime openings. Maybe I'll check out some of her music on Crunchyroll before the movie comes out.

There are actually two singers with the same stage name: LiSA!

See, this article is talking about LiSA, the powerhouse J-Pop singer known for mega hits like "Gurenge" from Demon Slayer. But there's also Lalisa Manoban, a Thai rapper and singer who goes by the stage name Lisa (also spelled LiSA sometimes) and is part of the super popular K-Pop group Blackpink.

Since Crunchyroll is known for anime, it's safe to assume this concert film is for the J-Pop LiSA. But it's always good to be aware, especially if you're new to the whole idol scene! Just a heads up in case you start digging into LiSA's music and find Blackpink videos popping up instead.

Finally, some LiSA recognition in the West! She's been a massive star in Japan for years, and it's awesome to see her getting the love she deserves. "LiVE is SMiLE ALWAYS -LANDER-" was an incredible tour, and I can't wait to relive it on the big screen. Plus, seeing a live concert with a dedicated audience is a whole different experience than watching a fancam. This is a must-watch for any J-Pop fan!

Guess I gotta broaden my horizons beyond just anime openings and dive deeper into her music. Three days in theaters? That might be a marathon viewing for me, but hey, no complaints here! Seeing the crowd's energy and LiSA rocking out live sounds like an unforgettable experience.
